Cal metal, that picture is exactly what I am talking about on the tremec. They are just machined pieces. I wonder if anyone could make them machine hardend? When they break, the brass syncros and sliders are fine. Any thoughts machine guys? scott.

I don't know what the Tremac "dogs" look like but the GM Muncie's are incredibly hard and they can break, too. I always wondered about that, as I have retreived a few of them and it has to take one heck of a lot of force to do it to them. The Toploader "dogs" are wider and made of very light metal--almost tinney in composition. As you know, all these transmission work off the same prinicples, and I would think that the TL would be more subject to breaking but, obviously, there must be something in the design of the synchro unit that prevents it from happening. I am not saying that it doesn't occur, but compared to the hardened GM "dogs", I would have thought the TL would be more vulnerable. Apparently not.

Ok guys, I have a machine shop fabricating some new detents out of a harder materiel. I told him to make a bunch of them. I will let you guys know when they are completed. I spoke with Don at d and d transmission in detroit about these detents. He sais that he has not seen many detents break on the tko but he has seen them breaking on the t56's. He thought a harder compound instead of the existing cast piece makes sense. As I said before, when I have pulled these apart, the brass syncros, and the sliders look great, its just the detents that break. If you guys pull these apart, I would be curious if its just the detents? Anyways, I may have new ones soon if anyone is interested? Scott
