original trunk lid ???

I thought the Contemporary Cobra was a direct splash off an original Cobra. If this is so , why is there not enough room for my licence plate ? did the original csx Cobras have room ? does yours ? What the hell happened ?

I have the same situation on my NAF. I am going to try to relocate the trunk handle about 3/4" lower to allow for a standard license plate and surrounding frame. Other than the fact that the English plates are much narrower, I don't know why allowance wasn't made for this. Currently I can fit the plate but only without a frame. That may be why a FFR appears to have a "Perky Butt".

My plate fits fine on my NAF. Will take measurements, of handle and light, from trunk edge, and post them tomorrow

My cobra is a B+B. My plate didn't fit. I was told its because its a English car body builts for their size licence plate. I trimmed the top and the bottom of the plate to fit around the handle and the light. Jim

Yup - UK plates can be "squarish" as per USA, but also long and narrow. I forget the exact dimensions. The latter was allowed for at the rear of the Ace/Cobra.

My own number plate fits with space to spare between the boot lid handle and the number plate light.

My recollection was that the Contemporary had a strangely shaped area at the license light. The bump was blended in too much...

I measured an original car. The vertical distance from the bottom surface of the light to the center of the handle axis is 7.3". A license plate is 6" tall, without frame, so it is quite tight.

Thanks for the heads up Bob.

A & C mounts their handle on the body, not the trunk, to allow for the plate.

My NAF is 3/8" from the botom of the decklid to the bottom of the license plate, and 3/8" from the top of the [late to the bottom of the license plate light. I dont use a frame because I cant stand the things, too much clutter, IMHO.

Rick Parker 04-03-2003 05:56 PM

Edley:

Have you notched the plate for clearance of the deck lid handle???

Rick

Edley Rondinone 04-03-2003 06:27 PM

Sorry Rick, I omitted some information. 3/8 from bottom of decklid to bottom of latch. 3/8 from top of latch to bottom of plate. And 3/8 from top of plate to bottom of light. Pretty much equal spacing all around the plate area. Rick, are you near L.A.?

Mine was a squeeze. It overlaps the handle bezel. Checkout picture three.

Compared with the difficulty getting my legs in the door and banging my head on the top (when it's on), this is a minor problem.

Just the price of admission. :D Welcome to the wonderful world of the Cobra!

Hate to say this guys but that a&c rear looks goofy

Edley Rondinone 04-04-2003 09:12 PM

Alex, the A&c DOES look a little goofy, but the bumpers cover up a lot of it, at least my bumpers do.
