Hersh,
My original question was:

"how much is enough?" How much money does it cost to run this site and how much should people who use it expect to pay? If it costs $2000 a year to run and $8000 is collected, what should be done with the excess funds? Donated to charity perhaps??"

I asked it in public because perhaps the other 5848 users of this forum who do not donate are thinking the same thing.

As for "throwing a sirloin into a den of hungry Gasholes" perhaps others don't post their real thoughts because of a few people who tend to dominate this forum.

Cheers
Jim

Jim

If it is any consolation, I bought your video before I bought my car. Enjoyed the video.

Kind of like the whole CS thing isn't it. So many of us are eternally grateful to Brent that any question could be taken wrong.

I sent my check, personally don't care what Brent uses it for.

I think it is time for DVSFIII and some serious drinking. As Jamo put it to me once "... the Fling heals all....."

See all of you in June!

Interesting...very interesting.

I've been watching this thread and have resisted in posting an opinion so as NOT to be categorized as "one of the Gasholes that dominates" the club but this is spiraling into absurdity. I have had several heated discourses with Brent, Wayne Stoker and others over the years and was even "banned" for a period as a result of those interactions BUT during that time I supported Brent's efforts with donations. Why, because he takes the effort to provide a site for me to meet others, discuss everything under the sun and agree to disagree on heated issues. This site has provided more friendship opportunities than most organizations that require a membership or subscription fee. No one is demanding a donation or holding us hostage for support. Who cares what Brent uses the donations for? Isn't a donation a gift? Do we ask how the monetary gifts that we offer to our friends and family are utilized? The amounts received certainly don't offset the amounts Brent is required to spend on Extra Strength Excedrin, I know because I cause my fair share. (owning stock in Bristol-Myers does have a benefit!;) ) Guys, we're not talking about a tremendous surplus of donations here, this wasn't established as a charitable fundraiser. Since when is sharing a few bucks with friends cause to become anal retentive?
If we need to pick on someone, let's not choose Turk the initiator of the donation campaign or Brent who rightfully deserves our support.....let's pick on Evan or Wayne Stoker, they're significantly easier to stimulate and besides...we'd have a "REAL" cause.:D

365 days in a year/ 24 hours in a day/ 24x365=8760 hours in year. What would you consider a fair hourly rate for operating this forum?. $1.00 an hour.? 50cents an hour?
Sounds like chicken feed to me... Last year the collection was somewhere in the 2K figure. what does that come to? 20 cents an hour...
No one is getting rich here...

The opposition to this is petty on several levels...

Question????

I have held back, but now must ask?

Why is it anyones business, as to what it cost to run this site? If it is an issue........... then do not send money.

I am sad that Brent even took the time to respond to a stupid question like that. I am offended for him. I find it even more amusing that his personal time has not been factored into those costs.

The ads pay the monthly but what about all the professional labor costs as well as the expertise................. FREE????????

Now granted, Brent never said he wanted to make money off CC but he sure as hell could have. (Actually I am not sure that is a true statement if you figure labor cost.) If he wanted he could have sucked us all in for a few years, and then threw a membership fee at us.

Why was the question asked, if one already commited to not participate?

If is an issue are we not able to ask the question ourselves?

And I ask again, is it our Freak'n business? IMHO.... absolutely not.

I am going to request that we cut this thread short...
...I fear we can only create ill-will if it sustains.

Terry asked a question... and got his answer.
Jim asked a question... and got his answer.

...we talked about it a bit, but I think the questions are answered.

Thanks

Computerworks,
Fine by me. Thanks for all your help.

No hard feelings guys. It's been a good run and I've enjoyed your company.

See you down the road. I'm out of here.

All this pi$$ing on each other's shoes is really getting to me.
Charity/ donations should be the domain of goodwill. Not fodder for the "I'm better than you"/ "I do more than you"/ "I look better in the mirror" crowd.
I don't appreciate the posts or people that use guilt or shame methods to cajole people into donating for this or that. A friendly reminder will do thank you.
This place is beginning to be like the refrigerator at work that employees blame each other for being dirty. I come here to get away from that cr$p.
Let's make it a fee for use site and get it over with. How the money flows is all semantics anyway. Who's kidding who? Someone's got to pay for it.

Jamo,
Thanks for your vote of confidence.:D History in the making Banned squared!;) My brother will be happy to learn that he's been banned for NOT participating LOL!

computerworks 04-08-2003 05:50 PM

Your brother, Dave, is not banned, nor is he near being considered for banishment, since HE did not continue to post on this thread.

You...however...have gotten ever so closer, since you cannot resist the mystic powers of the "Post Reply" button....

...on a thread that we are trying to put to rest.
:p

Dan Semko 04-08-2003 05:59 PM
