Steve........

That's pretty much the same story I heard, as my car was built by Shelby in 1999. The aluminum bodies were possible, though for a big price at the time. I also feel very fortunate to have a 100% Shelby roller, as I understand that is no longer the case. Don't tell Evan though. We'll give him grief on another thread. :3DSMILE:

Do you have the bill for the aluminum car that pre-dates 4027?
I would love to see it posted.
Is yours aluminum? If so, Is it Kirkham, Kimmons, Kemper or Leahey?
By the initials of the first 3 aluminum suppliers, please don't anyone assume there is a connection to the guys that seem to have a lot of meetings.

If I'm not mistaken, this company was used for some earlier cars.

Panel Craft was the company contracted only be HRE to build aluminum cars based off a buck made from the glass 4000 shell.

Kimmins is the right answer. In my opinion, they make the best.

I like it, too. I can't take credit for it, as I am the third owner. It was a ballsy move for the original owner to sink that much into one. He took a bath when he sold it. ( I hope he enjoyed it)! The second owner took a lesser shower, as I probably would right now, if I sold it. From what I hear, it is more a continuation car with a 4000 serial number- a new style Shelby frame with a original style unaligned aluminum body- warts and all. I sure would like to have a brake upgrade, though! (Can you say "run away horses"!!) I have heard that a Kimmins continuation car was used to splash the mold for the fiberglass 4000 cars. Is this true, can you confirm or rebutt that? Just curious. If I did want to get different brakes, what would you recommend, and how much $??

CSX 4027 04-11-2003 09:03 AM

Before you get a brake upgrade

I raced on the original brakes and had no problem. For the street I suggest you get a new set of original rotors. Have them gas slotted only. Not cross drilled. Then have the cryogenically treated.
Then get a set of pads from Porterfield 800-537-6842. Your pads are too hard and need to be softer.

my records show that CSX3178 was used as the splash for the CSX4000 'glas cars

Would you publish how much the original owner had in your car? You don't have to tell us what you paid if you don't want.
Just curious what a Kimmins project really cost the end user.

snakeeyes 04-11-2003 09:13 AM

Steve, where did you get that original Stant radiator cap?:3DSMILE:

CSX 4027 04-11-2003 09:30 AM

Snakeeyes

The car has the crappy original cap.
I only used it if I had to show the car.
Those caps are too light for a real race motor and boil it over too easy.
A higher pressure cap like the Racing Stant 19-21 brings up the boiling point which is aht you want.

PS The car also came with the following....
Original Oil breather cap- another item that is useless
Original LeMans 780 Carb-Useless
Original Transistorized Distributor, Amplifyer and wiring - useless
and a host of other show quality 1965 original INTERCHANGABLE items that were prettier than functional.

I know that 4039 was not the mold, as glass cars pre-dated it. But Sp K told me once that it was a Kimmins continuation car that was used as the mold. Just wondering. I guess that fits the discription as 3178 is a continuation car, no? Was 3178 body by Kimmins, or, Body by Fisher? :)

CSX 4027 04-11-2003 09:53 AM

Mold

I was told McClusky or Kimmins had something to do with the mold.

Sure, why not...$119,367.94 in 1998. All finish out authentic correct stuff. A clone of 3056 except for dual 715 cfm Holleys instead of turkey pan.
