Oil temp gauge sender location?
Where do you guys install the oil temp gauge sender?
This car will also have oil pressure and low oil pressure light. (dual sensor) :) |
My oil pan came with two drain holes. Used one for the temp sensor.

I have a 427 block with a Canton oil pan... one of those wide T-shaped ones. On the driver's side, mine had a plug mounted on the top of the tee section, near the rear of the pan. I removed the plug and installed my temp sensor there, pointing down into the oil.
My engine is fitted with a remote-mounted oil filter. So there's an adapter on the engine block where the filter would normally mount. In addition to the inlet and outlet connections, the adapter also has a small threaded port to connect the pressure sensing line. Keith :) |
I also have a remote oil filter. Since the mount for the filter has 4 holes in it, 2 in and 2 out, I set it up as follows. One inlet and one outlet used for the oil lines, one spare plugged and the other used for the oil temp sensor.
I think this will give an accurate reading as long as the oil passes through the filter before going to the cooler. If it goes to the cooler first, the indicated oil temp reading will be lower than the actual oil temperature in the pan. Wayne |
