Tire guru’s needed: 15 or 17” Racing rain tire needed.
I have entered a 5-day rally, and require DOT tires, prefer 15” or 17”. The tire must have 8/32” of tread depth at manufacture. Since the event is in Newfoundland, they say to expect 2 of the 5 days being wet. The rally is 1200 miles (350 miles at arce speed and the remainder normal speed), and I don’t care if the tires only last 1201 miles……
The person that is able to suggest an appropriate 15” or 27”, with 265-295 rear and 225-245 front (both approx 26" dia) will win a set of Ginsu steak knives. |
27" rims on a cobra that should make your teeth rattle. ;)
I would go 17" rims and the Kumho Victoracer is a real nice tire. http://www.tirerack.com/tires/Spec.j...ictoRacer+V700 They come in full tread and shaved but you will want full tread. |

The Kumho Victoracer has terrible wet traction, even with full tread depth unshaved...They are basically slicks that are meant for dry TRACK conditions and are not DOT approved if I remember correctly...
Just go with a good street tire. |

One set of tires? Hope it is all paved and well drained and you never run into snow! Different size on front and rear. What do you do for a flat?
If it is all paved you may want to consider the kumho Exsta V700 in the 17" sizes. Wet version of the S700 slick avaiable in a variety of compounds. Rick |

This is the best "long distance" tire for wet conditions that I have found. I've run a buch of rallies on them including one last month in torrential rain. Nice controlled breakaway at the limit. I have not slid off the road since I got these, my navigator LIKES that! Plus, they're "H" rated (130 mph) and cheap ($99). I will be running these on the Angel's Crown Rally next Saturday. I can't wait to do the Mt. Palomar Hillclimb run! They are Toyo Proxy S/T's and I run 275/60/15 all around. This size looks a little big on the front, but the first time you have to do some serious brake work, you will love the way they look! :D Paul p.s. Keep the Ginsu knives, send pictures! |

Unfortunatly I have a co-driver/nava-guesser... This is only the sencond year running, but mark my words, in a few years it will be the most famous raod event in North America. It is patterend and run with the organisers of the targa Tazmania (Australia) and Targa Newfoundland. I think in a few years it will become "by invitation only" so I thought now was a good time to get in. It is all tarmac..., and in September I am assured there will be no chance of snow. My Cobra never sees rain, so it could be very interesting. I am planning on spending all summer preparing the car and more importanty myself. I will get my stuff together this weekend and write a posting on the Targa Event... So I keep an eye out for it... I will be using this site for all sorts of support and help... If you have the show "dream car garage" on speedvision, the event is being shown on May 11th. Thanks... Mark |
RallySnake... Just checked Toyo site, and they had the size listed but no product code.. So I called them... Hot off the press they have EXACTLEY... It will be some more $$$, but they have just come out with a 275/40/17 "The Toyo® Proxes RA-1, a DOT-approved competition tire designed specifically for improved touring racing and autocross". It is perfect, depth is the 8/32... good for wet/dry and essentially a race tire compound. You get the Ginsu's... OK pictures will follow (I will remember!)
