Pic Required - Aluminum Door Sill Placement

Putting the final touches on SPF1557. I am ready to install the aluminum door sill pieces I ordered from Cobra Restorers and before I drill holes I wanted to confirm placement. My research tells me the sill extends from the lower door hinge to the striker with the lip towards the carpet. Can anyone verify this. A photo of the correct placement would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance.

You are correct.
The kick strip starts at the bottom of the door hinge and ends at the door striker. They were riveted on originally. The lip goes in toward the carpet. I will forward you a pic when I get to work if you would like. David:) :) :) |
I have uploaded to my gallery photos of the kick strips fitted by AC to my car in 2001. They are identical in shape to those fitted to the 60's cars though from photos I have they appear to originally have had only 4 screws. I hate to disagree with David Kirkham but they are screws rather than rivets. My photos of the originals are not clear enough to be definative but they do appear to look more like screws than rivets.
Isn't it amazing how this site can spend so much time discussing rivets? Is this where the phrase "riveting subject" comes from? |

I went to Home Depot and got a length of aluminum angle, I believe 1/2 x 3/4. I heated it up with a propant torch to remove the temper and make it soft. It then bends like butter and is easy to form, a slight tap with a dead blow hammer will make it fit perfectly. I drilled and tapped the aluminum and glass and used 6/32 stainless buttonheads to finish it.

AC may be screwin' 'em today (:eek: )... but, originals were riveted, in about 4 places.

I was getting ready to fab some kick plates. The orginals had a small lip on one side? Approx how thick is the section? Where can I get some of that correct material?

Ron: On the originals is there a flat area that the metal strip rivets/screws into? How wide is it?
Cobra Restorers amoung others has the aluminum trim strips, they are not too pricey. Rick |

Just FYI
Sills are nice.
Sills are practical. Sills were not on the S/C and Comp Cars. Only on Street Cars. |
