Help. Daytona prototype question?

Hi, anyone got the Daytona coupe book by George Stauffer? I would like to know what colour the wheels were on the prototype, is there any colour photos of it? I know its pretty trivial but im making a little model and i want it to be right.

PDHse I have pictures in some of the books, it depends on which car and what race.In 65 at Daytona the spokes were white. Other pictures the rims are full of brake dust. Some of the wheel where dull alumium cover. Some had polished wheels. The choise is yours. 1 picture the centers are blue, same color as the car. Good luck Rick Lake

If you look at the restored pics of the Coupes plus the McCluskey cars, the centers are painted white.

PDHse,

On the prototype, the wheels were left natural unpainted. Not sure if they were magnesium or cast aluminum.... Cal you know?

Anyway here's a pic of it getting ready to go to Cal Metal for it's skin.

Thanks guys, i think judging by unpainted i,ll have to go for matt grey.

The restored cars have them painted white. I am just guessing, but I would think that the plywood "buck", with unpainted wheels, might be because the car is far from being finished. These things have a habit of evolving over time, too. Nothing is cast in concrete.

Sorry i should have been more specific, i meant the daytona prototype which was tested at riverside with Ken Miles.

In every photo I've ever seen of it (CSX 2287), the rims were natural, even the latest when it was "re-discovered".

Here's a picture of it at Riverside when Ken tested it:

Enjoy,

team daytona wheel colors were:
1964 season = natural finish (no paint) and most likely magnesium
1965 season = wheel centers were painted white
