How do you Wash your Cobra? And, what kind of wax, if any, do you use?
Myself, I fill up a bucket with distilled water. Then I get a towel made with the finest Egyptian cotton, washed in rain water, and dried in the warm air, out of the direct sunlight. Turn on the stereo in the garage; some appropriate music would be some New Age music, with ethereal keyboards, harps, and woodwinds. Then I start at the back of the Cobra. First, I wipe off all the "visual daggers" from the eyes of all the Corvette and Viper and Porsche owners that I have beaten since the last cleansing. There are usually a lot of those. Starting with the rear, moving forwards along the voluptuous bodywork. Always a lot of bugs on the front of the Cobra; be sure I carefully extract all the bugs' guts from the radiator. Final dry with another fine Egyptian cotton towel, (no lint!) I use a Meguiar's Wax system; the Cobra sits in the garage under a cover, so very little "dirt" ends up on the Cobra, and it is easy to keep waxed! Of course, now that the Cobra is clean, I gotta drive it around to show it off, so I change the music to some Heavy Metal, and away I go!

Wow! That's a lot of work. I use the garden hose to loosen the fine dirt and dust, then take my favorite bucket of wash soap w/mit and wash it down good, bugs and all. I'll finish washing the wheels last, brake dust and all. Then hose it down again to chamois off. I use Onyx in between yearly wax jobs as it has Carnuba wax with solvents to loosen up grime and still give it the nice finish. Get out the vacuum and go to work on the interior along with wiping down seats and dash. At outings I carry Winners Choice for detailing. Oh yeah, always have semi hard rock on too! :)

Exceptions would be if I got caught in rain and splashed mud or other muck on the car, but that usually just hits behind the wheels and on the sides of the car. Also might use a soapy spounge under the rear quarter panels where rubber from the tires usually sticks. Tires get a good hand washing only when the brake dust gets too heavy to remove with the "touchless" stuff. For the weekly clean ups of minor road grime, dust, bugs, etc, I use McGuires Quick Detailer. And once a year, usually in the spring, I give it a treatment with a mild wax that is not very aggressive....... paint on my car is 20 years old, and no clear coat, so I'm afraid that if I rub too much, I'll be getting into the primer. I use wet paint and then hand wash the wheels and tires with plain water. McQuires quick detailer to remove dust if I happen to put it in a show and shine.

If I get mine real dirty, I use my pressure washer to clean the engine and undercarriage. Yep, can't beat having enough power to do the job right. :p |
Really, I just use water from the hose, and an old towel. Cobras ARE such small cars...but there ARE "visual daggers" on the rear from other drivers...(I see no one caught THAT)...dry off with another old towel or chamois...spot wax with Meguiar's...tires are always last, with an even older towel or rag...Metal Wax leaves an easy-to-keep-up shine on the Compomotives...Hard rock blasting all the time...vacuum as needed...then it's time to hit the road, and gather MORE daggers!
