Placed the order, need some advice!!
Guys,
Placed the order for a Shell Valley kit, now trying to tie it all together with thoughts of engines and trannys dancing through my head. Am considering a 351W with Webers, to get that fluted look, and would like a tranny that will give me a good cruising gears. What would you guys recommend for a tranny that can handle 400+horse and give me 5 gears. If any of you 351W owners could share your engine/gear combo and the numbers it produces, it would give me a great start on the drivetrain build. Thanks Romanbuilt**) |
I have a TKO2 with a Pro5.0 shifter. Nice,close ratio, snappy shifts.
If you like a little looser feeling, try the Tremec 3550. I had it in our first cobra and it performed flawlessly. Be sure to choose the right cam. If you go too radical, your car will not be user friendly especially in city cruising and below 1900 rpms. |
ROMANBUILT, I would use a T-5 from a 88-93 mustang a T-5Z or world-class are great and they aren't hard to find. All of the Tremec's would be great also, 3550 and TKO. I ran my stock T-5 in my 88' mustang with twin turbos :D and never had a problem that was 500HP+. My buddy has a 94' mustang he is running a supercharger @ 11.38's in the 1/4 with no problems on a stock T-5. These are heavy cars with big HP/Torque mine weighed 3200lbs. I don't think you'd have a problem with them at all. Make shure you have a good aftermarket shifter, otherwise you'll bend the shift forks when slaming into 2nd if your not careful and also makes it alot easier to find 3rd in a hurry. Just my thoughts. Can't wait to order my kit! -wingnut13

T45
RB,
I would go with a T45, strong as a TREMEC, not as hard to build, as I noted in an earlier eMail. grumpy |
Grumpy, isn't the T45 only for modular motors? I know the bell housing is integral.... do you know something I don't? Good tranny though. Actually I'm shure you probobly know alot of things I don't.......
