What about towing a cobra? What kind of trailer? How many axes? Enclosed or open? What about the tow vehicle Capacity? Tongue load? Cobra(2500 lbs)+ trailer(??? lbs) = Total capaticy, Is that how you calculate it? Your experience is import to me. I don't want to reinvent the wheel, please share.:JEKYLHYDE

One relevant point. If you have to tow using one of those mini carriers, where the front wheels are suspended and the rear wheels are in contact with the pavement, make SURE you disconnect your drive shaft; otherwise, you run the risk of destroying your transmission by locking up your mainshaft due to lack of lubrication.

No need to go through all of that bother.

Go down to your neighborhood U-Haul and rent their car trailer.

I believe it cost me ~$40. Easy, easy.....and very easy. (did I mention that this was easy?)

As far as hauling capacity, what do you plan to pull it with?

Got you beat. Our local hardware store that has a rental unit attached will lease one for $25.00 per day. Thought about buying one but for that kind of $$$, and given the limited used I would have for the trailer, the rental is the way to go.

Uhaul is ok if you don't mind getting it wet or having some thing fly up off the road. Im too particular. Its enclosed for me. Plus in hunting season it can be easily converted into a camper. just throw in a cot and a bed roll and your set :LOL: :LOL:

The type trailer that U Haul rents comes with an inertia brake because most personal cars are not equipped to activate the electric brakes of most car haulers. If the car and trailer weighs more than the tow vehicle they will not rent you a trailer unless you would like to rent the tow vehicle also. 16-foot car haulers (actual over all length around 21ft.) come in many descriptions. They have steel with wooden floors about 900lbs at $900.00; they have all steel like mine at about 1,800lbs for $1,400.00 and all aluminum trailers that are back to 900lbs but 4 times the price. The steel trailers come with duel axels with electric brakes on the rear only and they all come with used tires except possibly the Cadillac brand. You have to install the 4 D rings and also buy all the tow straps. You might want to think of a hand crank pulley to pull the car on board incase it is not running. You might want to have a spare tire mount installed with a spare, and most important a place to store your trailer when you are not towing the Cobra. As far as the enclosed trailers they are really nice and keep the Cobra dirt free and dry but now you need even more money for the trailer and of course a bigger tow vehicle and more money.

I suggest that you do a search since this topic has been discussed several times. Open versus closed trailers, trailer size, length, etc. as well as a lot of information on tow vehicles. There is a lot of info already here, just search for it.

To Trav,
I have a 2002 Tacoma Double Cab with a 3500 lbs cap. and a 350 tongue max.
I live on an Island and to get on and off you must travel by boat for several hours. The Loading ramps at the boat are a problem with the low clearance of the side pipes. Trailering is a must even if I am going to drive it after it gets there.
