Motor mounts

Looking at motor mounts for my sb Ford, Total Control make a nice looking very solid style mount, and Prothane make a factory style mount and quite a bit cheaper, I suppose you get what you pay for, I am thinking the TC product would suit more if one wanted to restrict engine movement to a minimum without going solid. Rubber factory mounts have done me in the past, and someone stated that the some of the convertible Fords had a much stiffer mount?

Anyone had experience with poly mounts.

Ant,
I have tried both solid and poly, and both were too harsh for a
regularly street driven car IMHO. I found a fix by drilling a 1/2 hole
completely thru the stock motor mount and installing a Grade 8 bolt with washers and a nylock. It should be slightly loose so that 'normal' movements are not restricted, but severe torque is stopped. This restricts the motor movement, but lets the mount absorb the harshness of the motor vibrations and road imperfections. Also is mostly invisible when installed.

Robert,

Your fix isn't that silly, actually a guy here ran a very fast Holden Monaro with a Donovan alloy GM sprint boat engine, that I was going to buy in one of my weak moments, doing the road test the car had massive horsepower, all coupled with decreasing oil pressure like 10lbs drop every quarter mile, sorry to digress he had bolted engine mounts, I think about four bolts in each one.

Prothane mount

I have enclosed a pict of the Prothane mount, which appears to be like a standard mount with the urethane center, this stuff is unusual as it doesn't appear to be much harder than rubber!
