Team Stripe Decal/Tape Advice, Please.
Interested in putting a couple removable team stripes on my Superformance gelcoat/clearcoat. I've read all the threads on this, but am unsure whether using actual racing tape would remove easily and completely. Staic vinyl would be fine with me, though I understand it's not reliable at track speed (though my static vinyl rondels are).
So, specifically, what can I use that's safe for the paint, hangs on if possible, and where? Thanks, all. |
Doug,
If you want them to look good go to one of your signmakers and have them cut you some 3" stripes (about 36" long) out and mask them together so you can put both of them on at the same time. The cost should be around $25 or $30 for the pair. Use a plastic bondo spreader to smooth them down before you pull the top layer that adheres both pieces of tape together. After you get all the bubbles out them pull your top skin off of your stripes and walla. If you want to take them off just grab a hair dryer and they will peal up very easy. Especially since you have a gell coat finish you will never lift your paint. If you have trouble finding your stripes send me an email and maybe I can help. Clois |
The static cling should hold on, the static cling meatballs with numbers sure do. You can always apply it with soapy water in a spray bottle then squeegie the air bubbles out with a credit card wrapped in a single layer of soft cloth.

I have no problem with duct tape but you can use static cling.
If you use duct tape stick it on the living room carpet a few times to reduce the amount of adhesion. In either case wrap it under the fender and put a piece of duct tape over it to hold the end. The other end can be held in place by the hood, if need be. Roscoe |
MrFixit,
Why "soapy water"? I have used tap water from a sprayer and it has held fine for me. I have found that it holds best if I apply my static-cling the night before I take the car out. (allows the water to dry and maximizes adheasion. Thanks, Mike "monster" |
I use water or windex, whichever is handy at the time.
