Women and Flat Tires, sigh.......
 

Jeeze, the thanks i don't get.

All my driving life, i have endeavored to help other drivers out, like when i see someone driving with a dangerously low tire. I work my way over to them so that a stop light i can tell them they are dangerously low or flat. Sometimes i can signal to a car on the interstate that they are low on air, and i can see in my rear view mirror that they are pulling off.

But what is it with women? I swear, today again, i worked my way to be next to two ladies, and told them very clearly that they had dangoursly low tire pressures, the kind where the tire is probably already ruined. They said thanks, there was no mistake that they understood what I was warning them of, and yet both ladies accelerated away, one merging out on the Interstate in her SUV.

I can just imagine what happens when her tire blows, and she rolls, and then sues the SUV maker. Someone in SC recently won 10 million when they acknowledged they were speeding, on a 7 year old tire, and had never ever checked the tire pressure, rolled, etc.

The second one, i followed this lady into a parking lot, told here about her rear tire being almost flat, and pointed to a big tire place RIGHT ACROSS THE STREET!!! and she told me thanks, and drove away down the road.

Then a few minutes later, saw this cool dude lying back in his seat, one tire about flat, accelerating out towards the highway. I just shook my head, and went on my way.

The worst example was a few years ago, got a young woman's attention that her purse was on top of her roof. , but she thought i was trying to pick her up, i guess, she rolled up her window and raced off, purse still on top of her car.

I always look my car over when i walk up to it, goes back to days in army aviation. But some folks probably couldn't tell you what color their car was.

Just venting, i am going out with daughter Becky to Hot Rod night at Tubby's bar and grill in a few minutes.

Just helped a friend with a Jensen Healey, did a compression check, sad news.

I think it is called "natural selection", or Mother Nature's way of weeding out the sick and the weak from the herd...yes, sometimes they profit in the short term, who knows? I try to tell people about low tires and such, and the times they DO react and take heed of the notice, it does make me feel a little better.

Just wait til ya see a 155-80-13 yire stretched onto a 10" wide rim!

Several years ago I was returning from a trip to Arizona in my LAE. I stopped for gas at some easy off-easy on place on I-10 in the LA basin.

As I was pulling out from the station I noticed a young lady, in some kind of ricer, with a flat pull into a vacant lot. She pulled way over to the back side of the lot where no one could have seen her in time to stop and render assistance, so I did.

She wanted to do it alone, I guess she thought I had other plans, but I went ahead and helped her anyway being as courtious as I could.

It was a good thing because the lugs were stuck so tight that she had to stand, and bounce, on the lug wrench, as I held it on the lug nut, to break a couple of them loose.

With the tire changed, she proceede on her way, and so did I. We never even exchanged names.

I hope that she will always have a little respect for old guys in Cobras.

I once saw a car with a flat pulling over and noticed the lady was well dressed and in no way was she going to be able to change the tire. I pulled over and offered to help and she accepted. Took all of 8 minutes to change the tire and she was ready to go.
When I said "Ok your all set" she offered to pay me for my help and I politely declined and said it wasn't necessary. For this she said I was being rude by refusing and should be ashamed of myself. :confused: :confused:

There's just no explaining some people.

Many people have the wrong mentality. Car maintenance? What's that? Just drive it, if something breaks, send it to the mechanic....

People just plain don't realize that not paying attention to their cars can compromise their safety...and wallet.

Last Sunday I saw a woman in a Volvo station wagon with an almost flat right rear tire driving down the road. I got up next her and honked a couple of times, but she didn't look over. I honked again in case she couldn't hear the horn over the sidepipes...totally ignored me. Maybe she was deaf???

Over the years I have offered help to lots of motorists. Most of the time their initial response is one of suspicion. Lots of times help is simply refused. It has gotten to the point that I am reluctant to even offer any more. Unfortunately, a lot of this suspicion is warranted. There are lots of bad people out there.

I remember when I lived down in Miami, Fl., there were a rash of cases where the opposite scenario occurred. In one case, two young girls were pulled over on Krome Ave, a remote road at the time. They appeared to be stranded. Two young men stopped to help them. The whole thing was a trap, they were killed by two other men hiding just off the road and their car was stolen. Apparently the car they were in (also stolen) ran out of gas and so they needed a new one so they could continue their "joy riding" for the evening.

Just goes to show you, no good deed goes unpunished.
