One idea for next year....how about
 

instituting a "fine", (maybe $100) next year for anyone breaking the rules that DV has laid out, plus any updates for next year. More important, anyone fined cannot participate in certain remaining activities (giving rides in London etc.) for that weekend.

Of course this would not work for folks who race on a course and legitimately wreck themselves, but it would work for most things.

The money would go to CF.

Any thoughts?

Yeah, I have a thought - A $100? I can afford that. And since I got a little money and this bad set of wheels, I must be... how shall I put it, oh I know... BETTER than the average person, so rules don't apply to me. And not only am I "better" than the average person, I have the RIGHT to tell him what I believe is his "acceptible level of risk" to be in my presence. And I also think I have the right to do a 100mph blast or a few dohnuts around these people because I fashion myself as a "racecar driver" so the risk to them is very low, most certainly the risk is acceptible.

Get the point?

Fine? Bad idea and impossible to enforce. Signed waivers by the DRIVERS might be a better idea.

Well, its seems that quite the discussion was started.

Sometimes I just have faith in people. For those of us who have been on a jury you know what I am speaking of. Almost always, a good jury will come to the correct conclusion in spite of all the professional BS being tossed their way.

Ok, so I put this issue in front of the group and some of the responses were prime BS. A lot of finger pointing and “oh yeah, well what about him”. But the over all decision of the group seems to me to be that:

A. 100 + MPH on a city street was not what was understood to be allowed by the event organizers, is not a good idea and is not to happen again.
B. The individual drivers must assume the burden of responsibility for their actions and that this responsibility can’t be waived with “permission” from a 3rd party.
C. High speeds are to be kept to a venue that is conducive for those speeds.
D. Rudeness has no place at the fling. (not talked about as much as I would have liked but I have to assume that this is what people feel)


One thing that was disappointing to me about this thread is that no one who was a transgressor had the integrity to say that they were wrong. The ones that did speak up only offered excuses or insults or both even after it was made clear to at least some of them that they were in error.


I think that some of the suggestions for modification of DVSF IV are just great. I would really enjoy the 0-60-0 or even 0-100-0. I do think that there has to be some sort of competition that people can engage in. 0-60/100-0 could be that. Or we could compete for the lowest time on the x-cross. We are all naturally competitive people and that’s ok as long as we channel it and keep it fun and safe. Moving the cruise to Saturday night would also fit my schedule as well as moving the strawberry festival to Sunday.

The single best addition to this year’s event was the x-cross. I only wish I could have gotten in more runs.


We were very lucky this year. Lets not have to rely on that luck at DVSF IV.

I totally forgot to mention that after reading your post.

I was upset about the number of people that kept right on talking while DV was trying to speak on stage out at the lake. Even when he began to read the letter about Jenny some folks just kept right on going. I fealt really bad for the group, not to mention DV, at that point. There where other examples of rudeness towards DV but this one many of us where there for.

I said my piece on this subject, and let it be...but I guess the person that started this thread, is sitting on some self appointed throne, and feels the need to now attack the integrity of people...all bow down to king frank...you stike the first blow of insults, then can't accept it when you get them back. You don't know me, so don't even begin to judge me...I'm really tired of all the finger pointing, and certain people on this net need desperately to get a life....like was said before, offer something constructive to this thread, instead of having diarrhea of the mouth....

The only thing I got from this thread is that there will be no DVSFIV unless the city of London is ready to step up and take over for Ed. I can't really speak for Ed but if I were in his shoes.

I believe that the townspeople of London and the LPD have been very tolerant of our rather unusual hobby. We have rumbled into their town and subjected them to considerable noise, traffic congestion, and (now) speeding on their streets.

They have put up with us in order to have an unique addition to their strawberry festival and certainly we have provided a spectacle the last couple of years. I wonder if the townspeople will continue to believe that we should be welcome there or if we represent an unreasonable risk vs. the benefit we provide.

We've been made to feel welcome there. I believe we should make sure we don't wear out that welcome. Further, I believe that we should regard our hosts (DV, London, etc.) enough that we wouldn't think of subjecting them to unreasonable or unnecessary liability. Just another $.02 worth.

I'm all for making an event as safe as reasonably possible.

But honestly ask yourself, how many people will shell out good money for a 25-mph or 35-mph run in a Cobra ?? You might be observing the LEGAL limit, but watch the lines dry up all the same. Heck, you could get more thrills in a New York taxi cab !!!!

How many amusement parks would remain in business if they offered just "kiddie rides" ??

Being firmly up on my fence, I nevertheless thought it might be useful to point out that any thread thanking DV for his tireless efforts on behalf of Jenny, CF, and we cobra-lovers has not amounted to more than two pages, yet this one, critical and in places close to sanctimonious, now amounts to seven.
It has also been instructive to note the comments from folks who weren't even there.

DV and family - thanks for an awesome weekend, I hope you can find something constructive in this thread to help make next year even better, and turn a blind eye to the BS.
I would not care to fly all the way from England to watch cars of any sort doing legal speed limits. Neither I suspect, would the paying public bother to walk a block to do the same.

I wish you much luck trying to square this particular circle, and if I can help in any way, don't hesitate to ask.

London's Chief of Police and Law Director convinced me that they would have the Officers and the safety issues in place. I will be having a meeting with them shortly. "The out of control conditons" will NOT happen again.

It's a shame that a few disgressions have cast such a cloud over the Fling.

I can't believe it has come to this, but here it is. If "anyone" and I mean "anyone" breaks any of the very limited rules I have asked for, then you will not be asked to leave the event, you will be told.

It breaks my heart to have it come to this. There is no one to blame but myself. Enough said.

DV...now I will get back to raising the last few dollars we need to reach the unbelievable goal of $100,000.00 for CF & Jenny.

You have nothing to apologize for. Some peeps feel the need to confess the sins of others in order to gain some form of relief. The spring fling has turned out to be more than cobras. I experienced more good will towards ones fellow man in three days than I can ever possibly remember. I am still laughing retelling the stories...

Just enforce the rules - make it part of the registration package - don't change it. I see more potential accidents in a daily drive to town than I did over the whole event. My wife rode with Jamo, Turk, Wayne Turpin, Joe Kennedy and Texas David - got the thrill of her life. Perfect gentleman indulging in responsible juvenile behavior. I can't thank them enough and in particular I thank you sir for a job well done. I would watch your six anyday.

I will refrain from making any comments other than: I attended DVSFIII, had a wonderful time, maybe saw a few things that raised an eyebrow, but I want to thank DV for doing a great job. All who did not attend and are commenting on what went on can blow it out of their cornbread arses! (Place smiley face here?)

Walk away from this thread! You and I BOTH know why the Spring Flings were developed and why they gather a greater attendance each year. If anyone thinks that the majority of the activities are irresponsible and they still attend, then they are the ones with the problem. If anyone feels unsafe, then stay home, easy solution. This gathering was created as a meeting place for cobra owners who are adults. When you have 300+ Type A personalities in ANY chosen area, some will misbehave regardless of venue. It happens at sporting events, hockey, NASCAR and Indy events, so wake up. If you are not part of the solution then you are the problem. No one was injured at any of the events, so drop it. Next year more preventative measures will be in place but harping on the past rather than contributing to the future is myopic, irresponsible and truly detracts from everything that made this annual event enjoyable.

DV did a fine job organizing and improving this 3rd Fling. If the detractors don't want to run with the big dogs, then stay on the porch.:mad:

:(I have been to numerous other events, and there are always the few that put a "TAINT" on any event for the many. I will be attending 'Hot August nights' in Reno in a few weeks and over the years I have seen nurmerous actions of a questionable nature. I still will attend because the majority of those attending
are there to have a good natured time and not indending
to go beyond what is acceptible. I am making it a goal for next
year tp attemd DV. After reading all the post as a replica owner
I want to attend no matter the few that are not looking at the big picture and have a no illutions about perfect actions from 100% of those attending.
