Shell Valley Engine Mount Question
Hey guys...
I posted this question in the Shell Valley section, but just in case someone else may know the answer, I'll post here too. On my Shell Valley kit, there are brackets that connect the frame to the block engine mounts. There are three holes on the frame itself, and two on the brackets that I just talked about. So which pair do you use on a small block Ford? I dont' want the engine sitting too far foward/backward. |
I am running a sb ford in my SV and ended up using the rear most hole in the frame. but I would do a mock up with the headers on and see where they come out of the body opening, as that will be the determining factor as to where the motor must go.

Well I'm using the SV headers and sidepipes....so they (in theory) should come out the same hole as yours :)
|
That is true. I did the set up pryer to pulling the body so I could have the motor and pipes on the car and done then drop the body back on. The mounts I used were a set of semy solid(for my 5.0drag car) I had in the shop and they woud mount on eather side of the motor moving it an inch front or rear, I also needed them with the motor in the rear most position. I am not 100% sure that they match the mounts you will use. I am also running clevland heads on my 351w so also using the 351c headers. I am not sure if all of this will make my set up differ from your's

You guy's pretty much have it. Use the rear holes for big and small Fords and use the front holes for FE's and Chevys. The other thing to remember with the motor mounts is to put the notch in the mount to the back. This should line the headers up with the opening in te body.

OK....next question....does the tube part on the mount go up or down? I know the engine can sit about 3" up/down depending on which way you bolt them up. The strongest weld seems to be on the "up" orientation.
|
Mine are up I tride it down and the mounts would not clear.
|
Tubes go up. This should give plenty of clearance for MOST intakes / carbs. If hood clearance does become a problem, we can fab shorter mounts.
