wheels size

I'm building a lonestar cobra and currently looking for wheels. My question is are all 4 wheels the same width or are the back rims generally wider than the front?

Thanks!
Ed

Ed,

Useally the rear wheels are wider than the front.
There are many sizes of wheels and tires, as you well know.......

I would suggest you contact Lone Star, ask for their recomendation as to which wheel size works best for your LS Cobra. They have done enough Cobras to know whats best in your situation !!

Good luck and post some pics of your cobra build !!

Original Cobra sizes translate roughly to:

245-60-15
275-60-15

Recommended sizes by A&C:
15X8 4.5 inch backside
245-60-15

15X10 4.0 backside
295-50-15

Optional 16:
245-50-16 or 225/60-16
255-50-16 (Dunlop Sp8000 has almost the same contact patch as the BFG 295's!)

or 17's. . .

Fronts are almost always 7.5-8" the rears are 9.5-10" If you use trigo knock off kits they are 1/2" less in width, 7.5 and 9.5 to overcome the added thickness of their adapter plate.

If you want to step up to 17's you can get 9.5" in front and 11" in back. This is done by replacing the cross sectional width (or bulge) in the tire with a tire / rim that is "flat" or perfectly perpendicular to the wheels axis. The over all diameter remains at 25.5" but the tire height goes from like 5.5" to 3" and the treadwidth goes from 8 in front to 9.5 and 10 in back to almost 12".

If you go 17's you can get 275/40's in front and 315/35's in back...

Think Lonestar usesthe same suspension setup as Classic Roadsters, '74 - '78 Mustang II front, '79 - '89 Mustang 8.8 rear.

Used 17"x8" front, 4" backspacing, 235/45ZR tires. Rears are 17" x 9 1/2", 5" backspacing, 275/40ZR tires. Tire pressure 24 - 26 psi.

Good ride, exceptional traction on wet and dry roads, sticks like glue on corners, and very hard to induce wheelspin. Don't think you need 315 size rears for a 302 motor, and the wider your fronts are, the more the steering tends to follow road depressions.

I'm using 15x8 245/60/15 and 15x10 275/60/15 (Dunlop GT Qualifiers/ White letters in) on my A&C. I should have the body on next week. Then I can post some pictures.

I am using 11x17 in the back with 335's, 8x17 in the front with 255's. The wheels were all made specifically for my car. You have to measure offset and such. I am told the 335's are the widest rear tires Lone Star has ever used...
