Firing order???? Help?
When working on the firing order, where is 1, 4, 5 and 8? Do you start at driver side at front of car (1), work back to driver (4) and move to passanger front (5) and work back to passanger (8)???
I have seen a number of different firing orders for the 302. How do I know what to use? (this all came about as I had some heads custom made and they didn't mark the wires and I don't remember where they go ) I know mark the wires once I sort it out... |
Looking at the motor, the left side (passenger) is 1,2,3,4 front to back. The driver's side is 5,6,7,8 also front to back. The 302 firing order is 1-5-4-2-6-3-7-8 going counterclockwise on the cap. The no 1 spot on the cap is marked. This is the order for all the small blocks except 351W's and the HO302 that uses a Windsor cam. If you have an HO302 or Windosor, the firing order is 1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8. Hope this is what you wanted to know.

Try this link, to Summit Racing, for firing order.

The cylinder order Robert Sharpe refers to is for Ford products. GM and Mopar may order the cylinders differently. Watch who you ask.

Thanks very much...
Wow ask a question, go to bed, and the answer is there when you wake up. |
Yes, Ford and GM number the cylinders very differently. And the firing order for your 302 is determined by the cam you use. 289's and early 302's used one firing order, 5.0's and all 351W's used a different one wit factory cams. An aftermarket cam may use a late firing order on an earlier engine.
If all else fails, remove the valve covers, turn the engine over by hand, and check the valve opening sequence to see what your firing order is. |
