Any Cobra guys in or near Coventry in the UK?
I am going to be in coventry next week and I plan on trying some of the warm but tasty beer you guys have in England. If anyone lives near Coventry, give me some input as to where to grab a good one.
My mother moved there from Kansas after she met herself an Englishman on the internet. Me, my wife, and son are going for a visit. Also, if anybody is near, I'd love to get a look at a british cobra kit all put together. Anyone..... Anyone.....? Randy |
Randy - I am within driving distance of Coventry - drop me an email with details of your visit dates/address/contact details in the UK etc.
You may get the chance to appreciate a Cobra with the steering wheel on the correct side! :D |
Randy
If you only have one chance of having a wild renegade of the Isles give you a ride...let it be Wilf. Assolutely beautiful Cobra, a wonderful wife and he is a crazy basturd who enjoys scaring the he!! out of Yanks. Hold on to your butt once he gets the oil sufficiently warmed...:3DSMILE: |
I plan to give him the info as soon as I have it. I've got to get back to him tonight. We land in London on Sat morn.
Wilf is a wild one eh? Am I going to have to bring an extra change of pants? I hope where we are is not too far for a visit. Thanks for the info! Randy |
I'll have you know that I always drive at sensible multiples of the posted speed limit.
Let's hope the oil warms through on the trip over to Coventry eh? |

Well. I managed to find an opening between the rain showers we have been having all week, and meet up with Randy and his family near Coventry.
A pleasure to meet them all, and Randy now knows what a refined Englishmans' Cobra looks and feels like: |

I think he took a while to realise that, nope, he wasn't in the passenger seat, and yes, the steering wheel is meant to be there.
We found a section of the "Fosse Way" - a road originally built by the Romans, and therefore straight as an arrow. We proceeded accordingly, and yes Jamo, the oil was warmed through. When we got back from our ride there was a definite "Cobra grin" to be seen. Great to meet a CC member in Jolly Olde. We are one big Global family. Good to meet you and yours Randy, safe journey home, hope you will have fond memories of Jolly Olde. |
Not only the steering is on the wrong side....so is the sticker!

Having been...
...to "Jolly Olde" several times I can only relay the excitment of coming around a "roundabout" and naturally drifting to the right side only to find a great freakin' lorry in my lane.....Dang Brit's can't stay on the "correct" side of the road!
Even better when you are in a Fiesta loaned from Ford or a car from AC on "trade plates" and you know that when they blow in the number plate you will be well on your way back across the Atlantic and some other poor sucker will get blamed! My business partner wanted to drive the last tme we were there....he panicked when a large lorry came at him so he hugged (and hit) the kerb blowing both left side tyres. With true Einstien thought he suggested we "put the spare on"...my reply "gee, do you think they carry TWO of them here as opposed to our one?" Next time Wilf, I will call you and let you scare the bejeebers outa me! Rick:3DSMILE: |
THANK YOU WILF!!
I can't say enough how nice it was for Wilf to come by and show this yank a great ride in the English countryside. He even went as far as to take another family member for a ride. We had a great time. Wilf's Cobra is a beautiful model of what a traditional Cobra should be. It runs very well also :D Thank for your hospitality. It was great to meet someone from the forum and even more so to do it in their native country. I only fear Wilf has ruined the image of his car by showing a picture wtih my scary mug behind the wheel! We leave for home tomorrow and take a great many memories with us. Thanks again! |
Randy - you are most surely welcome.
I hope you had a thoroughly good time in Jolly Olde, and also that your journey home was OK. Pity we could not find a longer piece of straight road eh? The one we used is probably the longest straight in the whole country! Those Romans knew how to build a road or what? The day I find myself in your neighbourhood, you better have that dream car of yours on the road. Luck in all you do. Rick - let me know the next time you come over here. |
