Crank bearing
Ok, 'scuse me if this is a dumb question, and that maybe it should go in the tech tips forum, but is the rear end of my crankshaft (302 stroker engine) supposed to have a bearing/bush to support the shaft from my gearbox(toploader) ?

Short answer - yes it should. Phosphor bronze bush or sometimes a caged needle bearing. Measure the OD of your gearbox input shaft at it's extreme end, and ditto the hole in the crank ID, should be different. (Crank hole bigger).
Could be your crank came from an application using an auto 'box, and in that situation it would not need/have the input shaft guide bearing. I think (but I am not sure) that the crank should still be drilled for the bearing, all you have to do is fit one, hope someone else can confirm this??? HTH |
YES! It is bronze and the entier drive train usually vibrates or worst if it is not installed.
If you have a big bone toploader, you will need to find the truck adaptor pilot bearing. OR, you can call David Kee and ask for a special input shaft that has a longer snoot. If you have an 1 1/16 input shaft, you just need to find a pilot bearing. Tap it in with a plastic hammer, dial it to make sure it is round in the butt of the crank and then dab a little grease in it. Hope this helps. |
