How far apart should the stripes?

How far apart should the stripes?

I've heard 1 inch and I have heard 3/4 inch. .

Also, how wide should they be, if not tappered?

Stripes

Hi RS,

Striping is purely subjective. Some guys go with the taper and some don't. I have an A&C and their assembly mount shows no taper and they show a one inch spacing between the stripes that are 7" wide. If you go to ERA's website they show stripe specs listing only a 3/4 " spacing between the stripes that they show (and provide dimensions) as tapered.

There is also the option of adding the border stripes. Usually these are spaced 1/4" out from the broad stripes and they are usually 1/4" wide.

Look through the members galleries at some of the guys cars and that should give you some ideas to help you decide. Striping, basically comes down to personal preference.

Most originals we have seen have a 1" gap. We use a 1" gap on all of our stripes.

David:) :) :)

If you want accurate information on the placement of stripes, I recommend you go to ERA website.
Here is the link showing how the stripes should be laid out.

David Kirkham,

What should the stripes widths be?

Do you do yours tappered or straight?

What were the originals?

Thanks!

Mine were painted by AC to original specs with seven and a quarter inch stripes with a 1 inch gap and no taper. Many people say that they should be tapered but I would be amazed if the painters of the original race cars would have bothered to do this.

Stripes

Was there 1/4 inch border stripes?

pderouss 08-02-2003 12:44 AM

Tony. Not on mine or any of the original factory cars that I have seen.

SPEAKING OF STRIPES

Does anyone know what the specs for the cross hood stripes are?

I understand the racing teams originals had them located across the hood!

The Willment Racing team used the stripe layout of thin-thick-thin, although I don`t know the exact dimensions. Maybe Fritz(COB289) or someone from Hawk can tell you, as their 39 PH version was modelled directly from the real one.(see below)

You could probably work it out from the size of the numbers on the plate?(Standard UK regulation size)
