How does the titling work?- New to Forum
Hi Everyone,
I am new to the forum. I have been into Corvettes over the last 6 years and have a '74 Big block with a Richmond Six speed. Once this car is done, I would like to build a Cobra as my next project. I am one of the few out there that like BOTH Ford and Chevrolet. I realize that a completed Cobra can weigh in the 2500 lb. range, which is SIGNIFICANTLY lighter than my '74 Corvette!!! I like the power to weight ratio theory!!!!! Can you guys clue me in to how these cars get titled once they are built? What about emissions? I would like to build one without any regards to emissions if possible (460 stroker, or a 351W stroker, etc, etc) I live in AZ but I thought I would see what people on the forum have to say about it... I would appreciate any feedback!!! Thank you, Bob Turner |

Each state is different, but most of them have some provision for using the year of the engine for emisions purposes. As far as titling goes, you must contact your state DMV to find out whether it can be legally titled as a 60's replica, or must have a new VIN and 2003 title issued.............. |

Bill is correct in his statement that each state is different. You should hear from other members from Az to coach you along with the registration process. Vettes & Cobras? There are a number of members here with both. I am down to only one, my 76, which I purchased June 15, 1976. How about building that Cobra inspiration on a C3 Corvette Chassis. I can point you in the direction of title issues also. In Az. they are titled as the year specified on the MSO or in my case a 1966. After an "experience " attempting to register, then obtained the official regulations from the DMV. In Connecticut kit cars are referred to as Composite and the CT DMV has a separate set of regulations for the inspection and registration process
Suggest you consider obtaining from the AZ DMV their specfic regulations. Elected not to use any type of Title service to prevent any future problems, followed CT DMV regulations for a 100% legal approach. |

Looks like there is a variety of ways to building or buying one. Small block/Big block, etc, etc. I will continue to do searches of prior posting to answer my questions in certain areas..... I wonder if anyone has installed a Chrysler motor in one of these.... HAHAHAHA!! Bob:LOL: |

Real Ford- I bought a 10 year old Cobra replica in '92 that was titled and VIN-stickered in Arizona....took that title, and the Bill of Sale to my local AAA Auto Club, they gave me another VIN sticker from California (same number), paid my sales tax, and custom plate transfer fees, ( S A C O B R A ), and out the door I went with my Cobra freshly registered in my name. Fifteen minutes, tops!
