Hardtop Winch
I am looking for a winch setup that will lift my hardtop to the garage ceiling so I can drive under it.
I can put one together myself but it seems like I have seen one commercially available before?? Any leads are appreciated. Thanks, Mike |
Try..
...dealers who sell parts for 55-57 T-Birds or Mercedes Sls. Both sell "Hardtop Hoists" that are designed to lift the top via pulleys to the garage roof and out of the way.

I seem to recall seeing one in the "Larrys Thunderbird" parts and accessories catalogue.

Wow, I just stopped at a boat shop and bought the cheapest winch $24.00, then home depot and bought a good quality rope and pulley on a swivel, went home and put it together. I used some nylon luggage straps around the top. Piece of cake!

Thanks for the responses, guys.
Knowing me, I'll probably run into RallySnake at HD, and I think these small parts will all fit in the trunk of da Cobra ok. Another satisfying roadtrip! |
Oh, one other thing McCobra,
Once I have hoisted the top up to the roof on the garage, I connect a heavy duty bungee cord at each corner. Just a little insurance in case of earthquakes. We used to get them when I lived in Denver, too. Paul |
Having lived thru the Northridge eatrhquake while in Orange County, I too am a big believer in bungee cords and of course... REBAR.
Will give my hoist a proper backup, j.i.c. the faults move east a bit-I will add some reinforcement... Thanks for the heads up:cool: |
