My Dyno Pull

Thanks to MrMustang for sending me to Bruces Speed Shop, they did a great job and they have an awesome shop.

Heres the goods: 1st pull with the engine the way I bought it. Torque is smooth all the way to redline. But the motor leans out around 4000rpm. (If you cant read it, its 450 HP and 510 ft/lbs of torque

5th pull after changing the metering plate on the secondary carb, and raising the main jets to 85s. gives a more consistent A/F ratio in the mid range, 2 more horses, and a little more torque.(452 HP and 520 Ft/LBS of torque)

Heres what she looks like:

Going to the dyno is a great experience, there is nothing like watching those barrels spin at 5500 rpm.

I was having my daily fix at Rita's next door on Wednesday evening when Bruce came over and told me about this really nice "Yellow" Cobra that he was working on that day...if I had known you were going to be there, I would have made it a point to swing by and at least watch the action.......Oh well, perhaps next time out.

Yours in Fords,

Bill S.

PS: Bob, I may be booking some tuning time myself in the next few weeks. let me know if you still need to come up for it, so I can let you know when it is.............

Roscoe 08-29-2003 11:09 AM

Bill,
I need some action pics for the dyno article I'm doing. Let me know when you'll be up there. Spoke to Dane but he does not have digital shots.

C'mon Roscoe, let me get some digis of the car on the dyno. I gotta get that sucker in Kit Car.

RonNichols 08-29-2003 12:26 PM

Very Nice. Where did he weld the bung for the O2 sensor.

Hope you didn't do the pull with the doors closed.

Bill Wells 08-29-2003 12:41 PM

hey Ronnie, this is BILL W ! the other one !

Dane, nice numbers and nice engine bay ~

Ron, where you going to go, to the War Room in Waterford ? they did my car (the old engine) and Craigy's SPF and they weld the bunge at prox 4:20 clock position ( looking forward from rear to front) in the side pipe just aft of the collectors and before the muffler. It is not visible unless you are under the car. I am going back there with the new engine pretty soon and have them dyno tune it as well.

BlueRooster 08-29-2003 03:52 PM

Ron, there was no welding going on....is that bad? Am I gonna have to go again?

mrmustang 08-29-2003 06:58 PM

No you don't need to go again, unless you want to...Bruce's Shop is equipped with the wide band O2 wand that reads the exhaust out of the tailpipe. Similar to what the DMV uses here in NJ, but a lot more accurate. Plus, the dyno has a built in weather station so everything is "weather compensated" as well...............

Dane-
Well done. And I'm guessing those numbers are at the real wheels, correct? That's excellent. And the engine bay looks great too! At some point you guys are going to have to show me where Bruce's is because I'd like to do put mine on the dyno too- more for tuning than anything else. Dane, what was the cost and how long did it take?

Also Roscoe/Dane, what is the name of that alignment shop that you guys recommend? I think it was in Dover? I'm going to need one of those as well.

Hopefully I'll see you guys soon at one of our Tri-State morning breakfast runs (if I ever get plates) :(

Thanks,
Mike

Bruce's Speed Shop
305 route 46 west
Rockaway, NJ 07866
Http://www.brucesspeed.com
973-664-0192 (I suggest calling around 10am, or between 6-7pm as the rest of the day is nuts there)

Bill S.

Disclaimer: I am no longer affiliated with Bruce's Speed Shop, but still do quite a bit of business with Bruce.............

BlueRooster 08-30-2003 06:25 AM

CHAPLIN: I was there from 10:00am to 1:00pm. The front carb was taken off and a new metering plate was installed along with larger mains. We did 5 pulls, and the cost was under $300.00.

Bruces Speed Shop is right on Rte 46 in Rockaway.

I took my car to an alignment shop in Dover, but I would go to Roscoes place in Fairfield. I think they are better suited to work on these cars. The place in Dover seemed like they never worked with Trigo wheels...I had to take the wheels off myself, and they didn't have any safety wire so we had to reuse the original wire. (You may want to send Roscoe a PM or start another thread.)

Chaplin 09-03-2003 08:46 AM

Thanks guys for the info. $300 to get it dialed, plus knowing what you actually have, doesn't sound like a bad deal. When and if I get plates, it may be worth a ride over there.

cobra fever 09-04-2003 03:00 AM

now, what was the power loss to the rear wheels percentage wise, for that dyno?

mrmustang 09-04-2003 03:48 AM

Every car is different, however, on average, 16-18% parasitic loss is considered the norm. More if the car is an automatic.

Bill S.

BlueRooster 09-04-2003 05:25 AM

I think that gives me about 540 at the crank? Thats about 60 less than I was hoping for.
