Johan,,

I swear to God I never knew Evan was just kidding... That got right by me.. All this time I was under the impression that Evan was serious in his defensive position...
Evan, you really had me going... I should have known.

If I forgot about AC the answer would be Shelby, but....
panels and chassis not made by AC would be non-original. I wish that Shelby had teamed with AC to build his current Cobras, and this was the plan in 1990/1991, but Brian Angliss/AC wanted about 140,000 for a Mk III roller, and Shelby thought that was too much ( I agree), even though he planned to sell them in the 500,000 range for the completion cars. AC made a very few MK IV's to MK III specifications, some with 427 so engines, but Shelby sought to stop AC from production instead of buy from them. Lawsuits were filed, but AC came away with the right to produce the car and call it a Cobra, except in the US, where the Cobra name was reserved by Ford.
All this said, I'm not some sort of "AC" nut. If I was going to buy a Cobra today, I would probably get a Kirkham 289, put AC badges on it, and race it. I do not hold AC or any other brand as superior . I helped my neighbor build and paint a factory five and we really had a good time doing it, something that is lost with the purchase of any roller. The Factory five looks a lot better than mine does.
Evan says:
" I'm not knocking anyones car nor is that my intent."
Johan says:
Evan, either you are fibbing now, or you were fibbing then, but I can't count the number of times that you have compared two or more cars and declared your car to be the winner. The biggest reason I would not buy a Shelby is because you own one, and you are creating a bad image for the "typical CSX4000 owner", in my opinion.
Evan says:
"A subject is being discussed and I'm discussing it stating the facts ."
Johan says:
Your opinion and the facts are two different concepts. If I had to sit next to you on a cross country flight , there would be an ambulance at the terminal when we landed because I would have tried every way imaginable to kill myself.
Evan says:
"Had I not bought a Shelby I would certainly consider an AC. "
Johan says:
Please Evan, do not buy an AC. I really like my car, flaws and all, and I have way more money in it than I could sell it for, but I can't stand the thought of having the same kind of car as you. I'll be your buddy and drink a beer at a carshow but I don't want us to have the same car. You're sort of like my co-worker that always wears the Searsucker suit (or maybe he got it at Cox's) , doing cold calling in the elevator handing out business cards talking loud, and then people look at me and I keep my cards in my wallet and just wish a hole would open up in the floor of the elevator.

Johan: You fibber you! You did read this thread again!

Thank for your kind words though.

At least you recognize I'm not the typical CSX owner. :JEKYLHYDE

While your "not reading this thread anymore" (I knew you'd be back, see you fibbed) I'd really appreciate if you could cite me an example of when I declared the CSX "better" than someone elses car.

I'm sure you are aware of the fact that there are plenty of examples of SPF owners and FFR owners delcaring their car superior to the CSX.

In the end you seem like an OK guy too. If we sat next to each other an airline flight I'd even offer you my air sickness bag if needed during our most defininte Cobra debate.

I love ACs. I think both the Shelby and AC have a great heritage. I think they are awesome. Ok I'll admit I'm just a little partial to Sheby/SAI. I guess we just have a difference of how we see the facts.

 ;)

When we want your opinion we will call and give it to you!!!!:3DSMILE:

Boy, suddenly everyone is getting all "touchy-feely" and polite on this thread....must just be about done!

Time to find a new "hot-button"....Hmmm, done big block vs. small block, SAI vs. AC vs. Kirkham vs. FFR, vs. etc., etc. Maybe circumcised/non-cut next....?

WAYYYY too much time on my hands...

Evan, what manufacturer makes the best car when it comes to replicating the design specs of the original cobra?

REAL 1 09-24-2003 12:57 PM

Mike: Very slick. I know a trick question when I see it.

How about whatever one you own/drive?

Chaplin 09-24-2003 01:24 PM

Evan- :D I didn't think there was any way you could pass that one up. You have more self-control than I thought. :p

Offer a little help.......

I'll help you out on this one Evan

"Evan, what manufacturer makes the best car when it comes to replicating the design specs of the original cobra?"

Simple, Kirkham......er........ SAI:LOL: ;)

Serious about the Mona Lisa. People have been wondering forever what the little 'smurk' was about. Flirting? No Panties? Ankles showing? No it is a self portrait of the old fart himself, as a woman. We would have to reanimate DaVinci to find out for sure but it is interesting.

I hear that CS is working on his own signature version of the Mona Lisa as we speak. Named Double Bubble. Limited quantity, individually signed on museam quality stock. Should be a real collectors items in about 500 years.

Love the one your with

Rick

Ford purchased the "Cobra" trademark from Shelby.

The only 'new' cars which can legally be called a 'Cobra', are those cars which Ford will/has licensed the trademark to.

Shelby, (in the past), owned the trademark; thus the original run of cars are "Cobra's" as are his new cars, (with the trademark licensed, of course, or some other agreement with Ford).

For AC's, the original series, to be called "Cobra's", they must have licensed the trademark. I don't know if they did or didn't...

Evan's car is a Cobra, licensed with the blessing of the Ford Motor Company through Carroll Shelby, Inc. or whatever they are calling themselves these days. (A great car by the way!)

I have a replica, a component car, a kit car, whatever... I have no legal right to call my car a Cobra, (or a Shelby for that matter).

AC's are beautiful cars with a long history, but the only way they can be called a 'Cobra' is if they have licensed the name. If they are beginning manufacturing again, (actually, I didn't know that they stopped) - and - I think this was the original topic...

THEY ARE MAKING A CAR WHICH CANNOT BE LEGALLY CALLED A COBRA UNLESS THEY LICENSE THE TRADEMARk.

What's the problem?

Dan: EXCELLENT POST! On the money. Factual. Irrefutable. Correct. Period.

What a breath of fresh air!

I'll take credit for the post, however, so you don't have to deal with the tidal wave of Bullsh!t that is about to be unleashed. I'm used to it.

;)

Nice job!

Johan 09-24-2003 04:16 PM

Dan, there is no problem. No need to shout. Evan and I argue like this from time to time , but we are not really mad. Evan likes to twist things around, and I keep him straight, thats all. Evan knows I am kidding, and we are both having a good chuckle as we read the inflamatory remarks he makes.
According to the SAAC book, the latest one, the AC's that have been made to date can be called Cobras under license from Ford, but at some point it will expire , just like it will for Shelby. Who knows or cares if they can or will be renewed ? Not me.I'm just trying to respond to your post, as it does not matter to me personally. Like I said, if I were to buy a Cobra today, I would get a Kirkham Cobra, if I did not already have an AC Cobra. I would even buy Evan's car , I'm not picky. I like 'em all.
Evan, I don't think there is going to be a tidal wave of anything, as everyone is getting bored with this thread, asscept us. I'm really leaving this time....unlass you post something assolutely outrageous.

Great Asp 09-24-2003 04:34 PM

STOP !!!!

Evan,

Are you sure that you were not really a cheerleader for the football team? :p

IMPORTANT NOTE TO ALL NUBEES ON CC!!!!

Do NOT feed Evans ego!

Eric,
He was the team's REAL mascot. Somehow Evan with pompoms and a skirt is beyond imagination!:D But I think I heard him talking to hmself at the DVSF2 and saying something about "I don't care what they say, I have REALLY purty lips" I thought he was referring to Jamo's flock but maybe not!;)

Excaliber 09-24-2003 04:43 PM

Uh,,,,,,,I'm not sure Shelby currently has the legal right to place a "Cobra" emblem on their car. Perhaps to use the "name" Cobra is used with permission from Ford. Acutally I'm not clear on the factual legal arrangements between Ford and SAI.

Being as Shelby sold Ford the name for a dollar and being as their are "partners" after a fashion I imagine Ford is at least "looking the other way".

BUT, I don't know that SAI "Cobras" can leave the "factory" with a Cobra Emblem on the car.

.......and hey, I'm a BIG Shelby fan and yes I think the only "real" Cobras ARE built by the man himself, C.S.

Ford is making a continuation GT-40 but can't call it that. So they call it a "GT". Same thing in my mind, another "rose by another name" by the same author of same.

Hal Copple 09-24-2003 07:03 PM

well, about a year or so ago, when i was particularily peeved about The Lawsuit, i decided to no longer refer to my SPF as a "Cobra."

And probably unknown to any one who has ever read one of my posts, i haven't since. It is many things to me, usually a Replica here, but never a cobra nor a Cobra. I have a Superformance Decal on the windshield, and when folks ask what my car is, i tell them such, and point to the windshield with a smile. Around home, the family and I refer to our replica as "the snake."

If Carroll Shelby had decided to call his race and street car The Tarantula, would we argue about whose arachnid was the most authentic, or the righful heir to the Web? Would then the Italians argue about what was really a "spyder?"

I'll ask Abby for her opinion, she understands this more than i do.
