Radiator stone guard

With a lot of Cobra cars having expensive alloy radiators, a few of you must have gone to the trouble to make stone guards to protect the fragile tubes and cooling fins of alloy radiators and oil coolers?
I am interested to know ideas on how to attach to radiator and make the guard!

One idea of mine is to weld threaded bobbins X 4 on the front of the side tanks, so I can attach a laced stainless gauze, mounted on thin S/S tube, with flats to bolt to tank bobbins!

The problem may be the distance away from radiator, I am looking at 1" that might allow for small rocks on the race track.

Probably an obscure uninteresting topic, but I am always looking at 'How to" do things to keep costs down.
