Simpson Latch Stuck!
The latch on my Simpson lap belt was stuck solid after a short ride today. I had to pull with all my strength, and after a few minutes I was able to open it. Thank God this didn't happen on the track! I could have burned to death!

.... after I freed myself I tried the latch again and it stuck again.
I made a call to Simpson and they are going to cover the defect under warantee. To tell the truth I don't think I will be able to trust Simpson products again. |
That is why...
..corner workers carry knives! I have seen them with everything from linoleum knives to a mail opener type unit with the blade safely tucked into the slot in the unit.

i have replaced my 3in belts about three times for the driver, they fray. As for the tiny spring-loaded ball in the latch, that goes into the detent on the "duck", they can get corroded, so from time to time, when my latchs get stiff, i just put a drop of oil on the tiny ball, and it works fine again.

Roger: I washed my race car every Sunday and the belts always got wet. I noticed that they would get sticky if not oiled every few weeks. How this translate to you Cobra is that I'd oil them every few months to ensure proper operation.
If they worked fine for a period of time and then locked up, they probably got corroded. BTW: I like the newer twist lock. Give it a try. Robert |
Stuck belts:
Are we speaking abouth the latch type or Camlock type? Jim |
Wasn't it...
...Ken Miles who used to carry a huge knife in the cockpit for the same reason?
