Air Conditioning

For you guys with air conditioning in your Cobras. What company did you buy it from?

I'm having a hard time finding an evaporator that will fit.

Please, I don't need comments on how I don't need A/C. . .

Can't help much, but I did see a green A&C at DVSF II that had AC, so it is doable.

I got mine from Hot Rod Air

a/c

I used a evaporative from a 1985 nissan 300 zx. The whole thing measured 14in. wide and 12in. high. I mounted it about 6 inches down into the tunnel, and boxed it off. It come up and with the duct work it fit behind the dash. I can give you more details if you want.

DV sells some kind of A/C kit the includes everything.

I all ready have the evaporator, duct work and diffusers installed on my car. ALL Excaliburs came that way from the factory. You don't suppose they put the Evap in first and then built the car around it, you think? It LOOKS like they did, lol. I'm thinking about adding the compressor, condenser and hoses to make it work!

Who is DV? Double Venom?

He sells these units?

I have 15.5 inches max, and it looks like the unit Hotrodair sells is 16 inches. . .

Thanks!

DV is double venom, search the CC member list and email him, he's a total PRO. But I must ask, Why AC in a roadster?

cobra427hp 09-17-2003 05:38 PM

Vintage Air (supplier for street rods) has a small unit with or without heater that is very economical and very small. I have been thinking about installing one. I believe Bryan at B&B told me they had installed several.

Mr Fixit,

First I must compliment you in your dancing little dude icon! Awesome!

The A/C is for those nasty muggy hot PA summer days when you just step outside and sweat.

Since this car will have a soft top, I can enjoy cool driving in those hot days when I probably would not want to take it out otherwise, specially when I take it to work, I can't get there soaked. . . I plan on driving this car a lot. . . .

Also the top is for those sudden showers that no one expected. Otherwise, it will be topless.

I have forgotten the correct name for it, but Vintage Air does, indeed, sell a "mini" unit that fits reasonably under the dashboard.

My wife's only requirements when I began my project was that it have air-conditioning. That seemed like a really minor compromise to me.

Double Venom 09-18-2003 04:44 PM

Aww gee guy's, give me a break! :) But wait till you see what's in the works! A DV III version? Boreing! ;)

Rsimoes, call me tomorrow at the shop--740-852-5280. Contrary to the popular belief of "WHY", many, many Cobras have AC in them! In my opinion, if you can't afford the 8 +/- horsepower to run it, you simply need more HP!

DV...Oh-I'm going to pay for that one!

Jack21 09-18-2003 05:47 PM

If Mazda can put them in Miatas, surely they will fit in a Cobra. Considered installing one myself for those muggy summer days when the practicality of driving my air conditioned commuter to work and not arrive soaked, sweaty, and uncooth made me leave Cobra home.

I just got "Bulders Cramp". Wanted car on street and driving it, finished or not. But if some has a pre-engineered AC kit for a CR, please tell me more.

Double Venom 09-18-2003 05:51 PM

Jacik,
Funny you should ask! But to do it now would at least demand the removal of the dash ;(

DV...it isn't all that hard!

rsimoes 09-18-2003 08:17 PM

Thanks, DV, I'll give you a call tomorrow. . .

Should I just ask for DV?
