Side pipe shields

The very first time my wife gets into the new cobra she gets a king sized snake bite. I told myself I was was going to be very careful about warning folks about the pipes. Oh well....

Well, she now demands I add a shield to protect people.

Does anybody make a descent one that looks OK and doesn't cost a fortune?

Send me your e-mail, and I'll send you pix, and spec's on mine.

Simpathize with your wife, and anyone else who gets snakebite because of no heat shields.

Perhaps I should make up a few sets of these because I had to make my own. Nobody sells them.

Had a local welding shop cut me up two pieces of perforated sheet steel, commonly used for machine guards, vents, and gratings. Expanded metal grating will work just as well. Size was 7" x 40", then rolled into an approximately 4 1/2" dia round. Had them ceramic coated like headers, inside and out. Keeps them from rusting also.

Fabricated some brackets out of 1/8" x 1/2" aluminum stock and mounted them to the sheets with stainless 1/4" flathead screws and locknuts. The "U" portion of the bracket goes against the 3" collecter and outlet pipe and is held in place with hose or dryer clamp at each end. I used 3" stainless hose clamps from the hardware store.

The shield sits 1/2" from the muffler. I can touch the heat shield with the engine running with my hand. The top is warm, the side is cool. No driver or passenger snakebite or clothing damage ever.

At DVSFII & III, a fair number of spouses and significant others were asking my wife how well they worked (Very well!!!). I expected to see more cars running sidepipe shields.

Found some nice ones at Finishline. Not cheap though!
