..the only downside I have seen with AVG is a sensitivity to other installed programs on NT based systems, including Win2K and XP. I have cured instabilities by removing AVG. This review seems to echo that as a problem. They also claim the free version "advertises" in your e-mails, but i haven't seen that myself. Otherwise, it is a fine piece of freeware for the home user...certainly better than nothing. |
Well that's the rub. But, you know, at least it doesn't cost anything to find out. I haven't had a problem with it and I'm running on W2k. Not all software plays well with other software on the same system. I use Norton's at the office on my W2k machine (even though everybody else here uses PANDA) and it runs great, not so great at home.
Anyway, this is America so we have choices. Just don't go surfing without protection. I'm out. (For now anyway). Bill By the way Ron, I'm originally a Long Island boy too (Holbrook). I left in '94... couldn't stand the cold anymore (or raking leaves, or shoveling snow, etc.). |
