DMV in NJ
Anyone have some details on the process in NJ to title a car?

Boudy-
Unfortunately I am all too familiar with the process. Are you trying to get a title for a kit car or transfer the title to an existing car? Mike |
Hello again friends.

Boudy-
The NJ procedure is as follows: 1. Fill out paperwork for title, send in MSO and all receipts (along with a big check for sales tax) to DMV's main office. 2. Main office reviews everything to verify that nothing is stolen and then forwards paperwork to special vehicle inspection station. 3. At some point special vehicle inspection station (SVI) contacts you to schedule you for a "safety inspection" to make sure the car is roadworthy. 4. Assuming car passes safety inspection, SVI station sends paperwork back to DMV's main office and then 2 or three weeks later DMV mails you a title, at which point you can do down to your local DMV office and get your plates. Some things to keep in mind. If done through the process described above, car will be titled according to the year it was built (in this case it would be titled as a 2003). However, for emissions testing purposes, the engine must comply with emissions standards (and have all the smog equipment installed on it) according to the year of the block. So, if you are using a post 1974 block, you must have cats and be able to meet whatever the emissions standards are for the year of the block. |
Chaplin: Thanks,

Folks,
I suggest removing this entire thread and it's posts from here, as NJ (and other states) DMV employees have been known to read them..................... |
:D
|
Just an FYI from someone who has been here a lot longer than you have. Take it at face value. Nothing in regards to the NJ DMV should ever be discussed online on this web site. Better left offline via email than here

alright, I'll take your word for it.
|
Thanks for the heads up Bill.

Explain what is on this thread that would warrant an issue with the DMV. Chaplin has simply explained the procedures. Just curious? |
Nj DMV, along with other state DMV's are known to read the posts oin forums such as this. Searches customized for the words "DMV", or "Titles Unlimited" are quite common, and easy enough to do. I was just throwing a word of caution in because of previous Titles Unlimited threads..................
