perky butt issues
Does any one have a picture of csx 3045 ?
Contemporary classics Cobra bodies were supposedly splashed off # 3045...I have been attempting to adjust my ride height a little as I believe the rear end of my machine is a touch high.... not b!tch in heat high but ..............well any way ..I was thinking if I could get a look at csx3045 it would help me decide whether i'm trying to correct a design change by my manufacturer or whether i'm battleing the genetics of the original. Thanks in advance,Karl |
Silly me,,,I thought for sure this thread was about FFR's. LOL

Hi Karl. No csx3045 pics, BUTT, the Contemporary "high haunches" look was discussed a bit in this thread a little while back.

I believe each manufacturerer splashed whichever original Shelby that suited them, but they also picked the side they liked. Other's just grabbed one and did it or just did their own thing and to heck with the original. However some, like ERA, chose the best features of an original and incorporated them into one body, but they did hit ride height right on with that "hunker down" look at the rear.
Here's a shot of Mac Archer's original from the front as he's coming down for the start at a vintage race. Both wide hip cars, the ERA's and originals are level to the ground at the side pipes/rocker panels. And from my gallery: http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/s...t=1&thecat=500 |
KK..
CSX3045 doesn't show up often. I have no recent pics. The Registry has 2 b/w pics, but I think one is mis-identified. They are poor pics taken from a poor vantage point to see the detail you are looking for. I can give you recent pics of a few in that range (304x). But, I don't believe there was anything unusal in 3045's ride height that would have translated into a Contemporary attribute. |
Thanks guys,
Buzz, Good thread, I had forgotten you started that frakus speed, I agree, ERA has the ride hieght i'm looking for Ron, If you dont have one, it probably dosnt exist...if you would post a couple of 304x that would give me the confidence to re spring the rear, |
Karl,
Checkout Haynes AC Cobra (The truth behind the Anglo-American Legend) authored by Rinsey Mills ISBN 1 85960 849 3. There is a beaut pic of CSX 3042 built around the same time as 3045. E-Mail me if you want a picture of it. Its the nearest original to the replica I own. PCC (Peter) from the land of Oz |

I love the dull look of the halibrands versus the too new look of trigos,,would I be crazy t bead blast my wheels and let them get dirty/tarnished ? Tk
|
Thanks peter ,I have that book ...somewhere.
And thank you Ron, that photo came as a real surprise..it looks exactly like MY car! There is no overlap of the rear tire by the rear fender. do you supose they changed the design slightly over time ( this stance does not look much like the current SAI or Kirkham........or is this car just sprung like mine? TK,
I was having the same impure thoughts:D |

Although those are original magnesium, that's not a natural finish... ...they are just plain-old-painted with a cold-zinc gray paint. KK- remember that the S/C had the extra lip (approx 1") added to the rear wheel well... and its actual size differed from car to car; further, any body repair over the years would tamper with the original lip, more than likely. Here is a side view of Comp car, CSX3008. You can see the lip is missing, but you can eyeball the ride height. |
Karl,
It was easy to get the rear down on my car...I had Aldan shocks that were adjustable for ride height. Also, I started running Hoosier Road Race Radials instead of Hoosier Street TDs, which brought the whole car down further. The first thing the guy who ultimately bought my car said to me was that he had been looking for a replica that sat squat and low, and mine filled the bill for him. Fool around with it some, you'll get at least close to what you're looking for. Best regards, TT |
Ron ,
that comp car looks considerably lower than the 3049 photo, perhaps the stance im looking for is a "race" stance. Tom , I think that is the route i am going to go , adjustables will give me the chance to play around with it a bit . Thanks, Karl |
Ron, There was very little left of 3008 that was original. It heard was sent to A/C by Ken from the club for a total redo. The body is new and most if not all of the frame.
