HELP- Dove Tunnel Wedge

1 Attachment(s)
I just purchased a Dove Tunnel Wedge. Have a look at this picture of the pushrod hole next to one of the ports...will this be a problem? As you can see...it is almost completely open

How about this

I would like to see those same pictures but from a little further away?

I have a Dove single plane that is leaving me a little cold.

Here is the damaged port

The pushrod hole can be completely open with out any problem as the pushrod is located by the lifter and the rocker arm. It is more likely a problem if it is NOT open enough which may result in the pushrods being interfered with by the pushrod hole.

I would be more concerned with how much meat there is between the pushrod hole and the port.

As for the port - I would just smooth it out as best as I could. It doesn't look very pretty but it should work fine.

Thanks Pat. I fell a bit better but I'm going to try to get the distributer (who I will not name) to replace it anyway....for over $800 I expect better quality. I have not pressure tested it yet and I really don't want to spend the money when it has not passed my visual inspection. I'll keep everyone posted on what transpires.

I had the opportunity to see an original TunnelWdge and some of the pushrod holes looked like this so I guess this really is not an issue.

Re:

It seems like everytime I read a post concerning Dove, a question of "quality" enters the discussion. What's the story with Dove? First, are they still in business or are people purchasing products made years ago? Second, how comprehensive is their product line, i.e., are they limited to manufacturing only tunnel wedges? I thought I read a post once stating they were considering remaking Tunnel Port Aluminum Heads. Third, has quality always been a problem with the company? Fourth, if Dove is still in business, how long does it take them to deliver their goods once ordered? Thanks for the clarifications!

I did not purchase directly from Dove. I have heard from several sources that the quality recently is pretty good. In my case the only questionable flaw seems to be on one of the ports, but I don't think it is a big deal. I will have this manifold pressure tested to check for the infamous pourosity issues and I will post the results back here.
