5.4l
That has to be the price of an Aluminium Block 5.4L because during the Ford Performance week here in june the was two brand new crated 5.4l engines one was the Harley Davidson version and the other was the Lightening version $5500.00 and $7000.00 respectively.
In spite of being almost two litres smaller than a FE or 385 series they are really a wide configuration engine. These were complete engines too all the way up to the plentiums. Clois |

AL block - all-new aluminum block cast from 356-T6. The improved alloy is said to be 20-30 percent stronger than the alloy used for the DOHC 4.6L. Billet-steel 4-bolt mains. Bearing-cap brace/windage tray that mounts to the main cap bolts. AL heads - 8.3:1 compression Supercharger Dry sump Weight includes clutch and oil reservoir Goals were to beat a Viper in a straight line and a 360 Ferrari around the track. Engine may see duty in the new F150 Lightning and the '05 Mustang Cobra |
Interesting that all the goals of the latest wiz bang dougee whaut floppers is measured on a Viper scale. Yet the throwback standard was established in the 50's by Allards, Listers and then later by the Shelbys cars.
You guys are starting to turn this tread into a SB. vs BB. thread, abid a high tech version of it. So for your enjoyment I ask you a question. Has any of you guys REALLY looked a Chevys crate Z06 engine? MUCH more power with no blower, and tractable to boot, at only 400lbs weight. Images of a 2000lb. Cobra dance in my head with a tweek'ed or even a blown version of it. To hell with brand loyality. Fords never gave me anything. But back to reality. I agree with Fixit when he says there really isn't anything new under the sun with smallblocks. With the availability of (relatively) inexpensive Dart aluminum 351 blocks out there, it beats the tar out of me why anyone would even consider any other all out aluminum small block design in a Cobra. (Note I said "all out") A 427SO/FE is another thing all together however. cobrashock:p :p :p |

My personal daily driver gets 30mpg, the FE admittedly, only gets 18mpg. They aren't testing my John Deere lawnmower yet, but maybe they should since following your reasoning, I run the Deere for more hours each year than the FE. As for what this thread is turning into, I agree it's turning pointless. |
