eBay Madness

There's a guy on eBay apparently trying to raise the bar on the cost of ownership of NOS Side-Oiler blocks....:p ...by selling a '68 Service Block with a starting bid of $19k.

It is hyped with every 'auto-erotic' term like..."Thunderbolt...GT-40...SOHC...R-Code", etc.

But... that's not the madness.... (although it qualifies)

He is also selling (in another listing) a disk of pictures of the block....I repeat, just a CD of about 30 pictures of the block

...well, there is 4 days to go and there are 15 bidders, with the high bid at $730.

:3DSMILE: :3DSMILE: :3DSMILE:

A fun one to watch...

How many of the bidders actually think they are bidding on the engine block? Should a short reading comprehesion test be mandatory for bidders?:p

...or have we all missed a fantastic second-income opportunity in the "disk-of-parts-pictures" business?

That guy is a piece of work. I may need to email him and ask him for all the pics in softcopy, so I know what I am bidding on :D .

KobraKarl 10-08-2003 08:28 PM

Ron... madness indeed, what a huckster, pt barnum would blush:D

casaleenie 10-08-2003 08:33 PM

Boy, I'm glad I was overbid at $725.54. What a relief! :MECOOL:

Turk 10-08-2003 08:59 PM

Ron,
That is a fair price for SO blocks.
I have one, so keep your rhetoric to yourself, until I sell mine first.
Then I don't care....

About Ebay

Concerning ebay, maybe youall could help me with a particular purchase. I have seen a few ATVs recently on ebay, and would like to purchase one of them. One seller is selling them at way below cost. What sort of scheme could one concoct to assure when you mail this gent a sizeable check, he will email you the goods, and not just laugh all the way to the bank?

I saw that and my first thought was of the guy that posted on here a couple months ago with a "Nascar 427" that was still unused and was talking about $24,000. You got to love the market place. I wonder if it's been cryogenically treated to help it stay fresh?

valpodoc 10-09-2003 07:22 AM

Rich,
Ebay has a program to escrow money to prevent "schemes" As far as I understand you have to agree to the terms prior to the sale. They have info "services"

How much can I get for pictures of

My old 460 truck block out back ? Sure it's greasy and has some rust, but CDs with pics should be worth at least $50 or so each...especially if I include pics of the girls that work at the local pizza place (thumbs up to whoever does the hiring there :3DSMILE: ) Ebay here I come! :JEKYLHYDE

HIQ 10-09-2003 09:22 AM

If someone is crazy enough to bid $700 for something without reading the description.........

bmercer 10-09-2003 09:35 AM

I wonder what I could get for a CD of pictures of my parts?

Silk 10-09-2003 10:03 AM

Bob,

Probably depends on which of "your parts" you plan to take pictures of! Much less $$ in the deal if you're only taking pictures of car parts. :D :D :D

bmercer 10-09-2003 10:52 AM

Digital enhancement might be a big help too.

excelguru 10-09-2003 10:58 AM

Did you notice that the starting bid was fifteen freaking dollars??? Geez...

Repeating someone's previous comments, I searched for a 50" Hi-definition plasma-screen Sony TV the other day on eBay (MSRP about $9,8000) and found several for $2500. Oh, but I would need to email them first so they can allow me to bid. Hmm... I wonder what kind of info they'll ask for to qualify me? I think I'll pass.

If something smells fishy, it usually means there's a fish around.

As for the photo CD, maybe I'll put my new CD burner to some good use! Of course, I'd have to endure all the flaming I'd get from you guys...
