Best Kit
Help!!! I am looking at Cobra Kits and the number of manufactures is overwellming.
What is everyones opinion of the companies below? Lone Star Mid-States RUCC B&B Manufaturing Shell Valley Factory Five Thanks! |
You are opening a can of worms! There is no BEST kit. They all have their pluses and minuses. A lot depends on what you want to do with it.....road race, drag race, cruise etc. Do you want a big or small block engine? The list goes on and on. The list you gave has no bad ones on it in my opinion. If you want a roller you might also consider SPF or Backdraft Racing. What is your budget?
By the way, whatever you think your budget is add 15 to 20k to it! There, all your questions are answered! Have fun, Larry:D |
ARGGGGGGGGGGG
Best kit? The one you buy and are happy with!
Do some searches and you will find more information about the different kits then you will ever care to read. Ask question in the manufacturers forum. Find cars local. Go look at, ride and if possible drive them. Most importantly, don't be in a hurry. Also, check out the used market. It is very good. You could be driving now while you 'refine' your ideal car. Budget, more than likely, if you build, you will exceed your budget. The less you know when you make the purchase decision the more likely you are to blow your budget out of the water. Seems to me the companies you mentioned are all some what compariable. But since I do not own one of those, I will leave it up the those who do to give their opinion. Rick |
Hello,,,Management! We need a Worm Wrangler over here right away, please hurry, this could get real ugly.
Chippy, add Classic Roadster to your list (they are of course THE best). Ernie |
Don't be in a hurry to choose a manufacturer. The research is 1/2 the fun and you will meet alot of great people. Each kit is different and you will find one that suits your wants and needs.
Good luck!! Brent |
I'm with you Brent, the looking is half the fun

ERA! Sorry... Couldn't help myself...Do plenty of research. There is a right car for you but the only way you will find it is by doing the grunt work.

Thanks a lot for all of the responses. I plan on taking my time - probably within the next two years. I have visited B&B manufacturing, and have driven one of their demos. I basically want something for weekend cruising, and local car shows. That is why I want the trunk lid, hood, and doors finished on the inside.
I also want something that rides good, and will run like h....! |
The best KIT or the best CAR????%/
|
Mine is best.....of course!

A small block 427 car with a 5 speed???????????????????????
I guess BEST is a relative term |
BB427
So, whose your best relative? Roscoe |
I guess that would be a cousin I had a crush on at my family reunion. (-:

At a minimum your research should include include two trips next year: DVSF IV in Ohio and the Carlisle Kitcar Nationals
Between the two you will get to see every conceivable brand in a wide variety of configurations |
If you want to build it yourself, not have to fabricate parts, get everything you need in one kit from one place, Factory Five is the one. Great organization, honest and offers a complete line of add-ons and accessories, and lots of vendors for other goodies. There are now almost 4000 of them on the road and the www.ffcobra.com forum is an incredible source of information and help to your build.

You considered the following and you said you wanted a finished hood trunk and doors. Lone Star Mid-States RUCC B&B Manufaturing Shell Valley Factory Five All except the Factory Five have the finished insides on the hood and trunk. If you want a IRS suspension That eliminates all your list except Midstates and Shell Valley and FFR if you forget the liners. I wanted IRS and a lined hood and trunk so I was intrigued by Hunters kit. It has the hand laid body with fully lined hood trunk and doors. The suspension is based on a C4 corvette which is aluminum and IRS. It has a aluminum fuel tank, front and rear sway bars, 16gauge steel floor and can accomidate any motor you want. Randy has even built some with viper motors. The Rolling chassis Kit with the corvette suspension is $10,100 for a 90inch wb or $10,600 for 96inch wb. If you want to look at one I live near Pensacola and there are several cars in this area from Uniques, FFR, Classic roadsters etc. If you want to see several cobras in action we are holding a track day next weekend in Gainesville and you are welcome to ride with me from here next friday. We also have the reptile roundup in November and there will be from 40 to 60 cars there. http://www.members.aol.com/reptileroundup/home.html |
