Shelby Exhibit at the Petersen Automotive Museum
Starting this Saturday, October 25th, the Petersen Automotive Musuem in Los Angeles will host the Carroll Shelby, a Life in the Fast Lane Exhibit. If you are a member of the museum, there is a preview on Friday evening with Carroll in attendance as well as all the famous folks around him. I suspect members of his former as well as present team will be present. I will report on what is being exhibited Friday evening after I attend the opening. I hope I can make the time to attend , but my schedule may not allow it (sob). But I do have a favor to ask of any of you digital camera Cobra buffs who might be attending.
I am looking for some good close-up pics of the brackets and hinge points for the flop back front license plate mechanism on the Street 427 Cobra's. 2 or 3 angles if possidle. I am hoping to duplicate this type of set-up on my car. Many thanks to any of you who can help. Greg |

The only real spring-loaded hinged front license plate frame I saw was on Lynn Park's original street 427. As I recall, it looked pretty hard to duplicate but I purchased a hinge and some aluminum plates to start but gave up since I do not have a sheet metal brake and I coudn't figure out the spring setup. If his car is exhibited or if he shows up driving it, I wll try to take the pix. Or I will ask him where I could get one. It makes sense for someone to duplicate and manufactue these because its more authentic than the type that goes behind the turn signal lamp ass'y. Shin |
I was thinking about Lynn's car and have seen many pics of it, but I wouldn't bother him till I hear he's fully recovered.
I need to visit him to make some special hub adapters to fit my Sunburst wheels to my car , so maybe I can get some pics then. I have a GREAT stainless steel fabricator here locally ( he supports the wineries) and he is a real car buff. He fab'd my ss under car exhaust and other neat ss pieces and would be the one to fab the license plate mechanism. Hopefully someone can come up with some good pics. (Dimensions would be even better) Greg |
I just came back from the Press Conference of this exhibit. Carroll could not attend because of an ear infection but he's okay so not to worry about.
However, John T. Tuft, President of Carroll Shelby Licensing, Inc. confirmed that Shelby and AC were now official and that Alan Lubinsky of Malta is the partner. The first cars will be a 2005 continuation model. This exhibit CARROLL SHELBY, LIFE IN THE FAST LANE is a MUST SEE for any Cobraphile because it traces Carroll's history of involvement in racing starting with a MG TC, Ferrari 375MM, Scaglietti Corvette, Carroll's CSX2000, Dragonsnake, GT350, GT350 Shelby Racing School car, GT40 (Gary Schroeder's), 427 comp #6, Bruce Meyer's 427SC, Lynn Park's 289FIA #16, McCluskey's Daytona Coupe #15, Viper, Shelby Series 1, Can AM Spec Racer, AC 3000ME and even an Omni GLHS. Maybe I will post photos this evening. Sorry Greg, you're going to have to visit Lynn personally for the front license plate bracket. Shin |
