The Bricklin I had used an American Motors V-8. Sounds like they may have swapped suppliers more than once? A funky car with terrible handling, but it sure attracted a lot of girl attention and I liked that part.

SIATA 208S from the early '50's had a V-8. Very rare, only about 50 or so made.

There's a guy in Mesa with a Chevy 350 in a Fiat 600. and I've also seen 350's in Corvairs.

Early Jensen Intercepters had 383 mopars. Around 71 they switched over to 440's. No hemis that I knew of though. And man were they heavy. They competed with Aston Martin DB6's.
How about early sportscars like Allards, Scraabs and the like. Actually stuffing a V8 in a small body is nothing new if you think about it. It goes back to roaring 20's and earlier if you look for it. cobrashock |
John Hennesy will drop a Viper motor in your PT Cruiser for you. I imagine you get very little cargo space, but it would be the ultimate sleeper!

One of my all-time favorites is a one-off. Nicknamed "Stovebolt Special," it is a HWM from '49 or '50 which started life as a F2 car, was later raced as a sports car, and had a Chevy V-8 (built by Vic Edelbrock) installed in late '55 or early '56. It may be the very first Chevy V-8 powered sports car. The car is now in Great Brittain, but was brought over for Pebble Beach this year.

Chrysler stopped production of the Tiger because no suitable Chrysler engine would fit. The later Mk 1A and Mk2 Tigers had a Chrylser pentastar on the side of the car but that was about it. The Ford 260 (and later the 289) was chosen because it was the only engine that you could cram into the engine bay, mated to a toploader and driven through a Dana 44 it was a true street sleeper. There was a gentleman here in AR that shoehorned a blown big block Chevy in a Nash Metro conv. with NARROWED 9 inch and 31" M/T's.:JEKYLHYDE
Also know another mechanic in town that put a 455 olds toronado with tranaxle in the back of a late 70's Datsun lil hustler. he had to put the 4 banger back in the front to keep the thing from doing a wheelie at every stoplight! |
