Racing VS Other Sports..What do you like?

Growing up I was always into cars. As far back as I can remember when in the back seat of my dad's 1961 Chrysler New Yorker, I used to be able to name the year and the make of the oncoming vehicle before anyone else.
Ball sports were ok but I had more of an interest in cars period.

The way I see it...
You have all these sports that have one thing in common..
They all require ONE BALL!
Racing requires 2 BALLS!!!

And as the ball gets smaller and smaller, you seem to need to be less physically fit. I know a lot of HUGE golfers that need a cart just to move.

As a born and raised Brooklyn Guy, I enjoy the Wolrd Series because of the Yankees but, I am getting a little sick and tired of the message that is constantly zoomed in on for our youth.
They are always CHEWING and SPITTING tobacco. It's not only disgusting but making a major contributor to various types of Cancers look cool to some. It's not period.

It would be like seeing Dale Jr. get out of his car and take a pack of Lucky's out if his T-Shirt sleeve and light one up. Bad massage.

I think the Major League Baseball needs to put a stop to it. I know a lot now chew gum but most are spitting something so I guess it's tobacco.

Racing has and always will be tops for me.

By the way, the whole ball analogy, brilliant. Laughed my ass off.

Aside from racing about the only thing I watch is Ohio State football. I have lived in Columbus all my life. I have always been around OSU football.

What I miss from racing is cheerleaders. I have often thought they need them. Have you ever checked out the F1 umbrella girls! OMG! Now just put them in skimpy outfits and you have something. I know there are trophy girls and such here and there but lets get serious about this! This is probably left over from one year when Budweiser showed up with a refrigerated tanker truck, full of beer, taps all down the side and the Bud girls passed out free beer all night to the drivers, crews and workers after the public left. ;)

Steve,

You just reminded me of my own school days and the 45 min. bus ride out of the country to the school in town.............

.............we ( the guys) would all sit in the back and try to be the first to spot and name the make year and model of any and all cars and trucks going buy, parked ...where ever..we all got pretty good....and if it was built before 1970.. im still pretty good....
Todays cars ........ehhh they all look too much the same to keept rack of ...or am i just old :D

I like watching GT and RALLY , will ocasoinally watch a NASCAR event and of course the MAJORS; indy 500, lemans etc...

...as for the major leage games.......I just burned out on the hype..and commercialization......life is too short to spend too many afternoons staring at the tube...

Rick

You mean,,,,,
I posted a politically correct thread?
Oh no....

PS.. I totally agree with the cheerleader thing.

I don't follow Drag Racing but I know they have the Bud Girls and the Hooters Girls.
But then we get back to the Gum Chewing thing again!!!!

All of those girls do the chewing thing to.

Here is what some of the car model abreviation really meant...

G T O -----Go to Oldsmobile

G T B--------Go To Baseball

RickS 10-23-2003 10:34 AM

I didn't know there were other sports! Ok, I watched baseball once but I could never find the flagman.

rdorman 10-23-2003 10:52 AM

FORD - First on race day.

'..PC thread..' yeh Steve you are going to have to be careful, might ruin your reputation:LOL: Although you did start out with 'what else do you watch' and end up anit-chew tirade;)

All kidding aside, good thread topic. At least until some one brings up that NASA Spec Cobra racing should not be called that because there are no Cobras racing in the series!! Oops.

Check out my new 'CC titles' thread and get yourself a title before one is given to you!

Rick;)

re:racing vs. sports

hmmm... i thought racing was a sport? I follow two sports--
southern college football --->Go Gators! and anything that has
four wheels and hauls ass. F1, IRL, NASCAR, ALMS. I'm fortunate
that I met my wife at a football game and ironically, she grew up among big blocks. some guys are just lucky.:D

Thanks Steve for the memories. My grandfather and I did the same thing "name that car and the year" , I too was pretty good thru the early 70's. I played football, baseball and now a little golf but I prefer cars If I am not watching racing I will watch OU football (I think we have a pretty good team this year). I do tend to watch baseball and basketball during the Championships. Go YANKS!

I am getting a little tired of the NASCAR generic templates but I do watch some of the races. Nascar is becoming too comercialized. When was the last time you saw more than 5 minutes of a race without a comercial? I am afraid that all sports hindge on money (whoever has the most money will win). I wish NASCAR would go back to production car bodies.

advertising/commercials-->capitalism..fact
of life now a days clois. while i think it would be neat
to see production bodies racing, we already have that in ALMS.
NASCAR is going to be the next WWF...i love it but its a little
too orchestrated for entertainment rather than sport imho.

FST HSKR 10-23-2003 11:38 AM

College football and NASCAR I get to at least 3 races a year and 10 Husker games. Rick, congrats on last year Ohio State played damn well.

Thanks for the kind word on OSU. I kept saying last year that we don't deserve to be number one and the next thing you know, we are national champs.

Now this year...... 114 ranked offense in the country! What the heck is up with that? Did not loose a offensive starter (Clarrett doesn't count!) and look at what you get!!!!!! Isn't that 114 out of 117? Is our defense and special teams really that good?

Huskers are looking pretty damn good.

NASCAR, especially the short tracks and road races. Most road races. Especially like the Trans Am series.

FORD == FIX OR REPAIR DAILY

GTO == GREATEST TRUCK OUT

AMC == AMERICAN MOVING CORPORATION

Fixit,

My machinist Kent Kannady belongs to your organization. He came by my house a while ago and brought one of his "PRIZE" rifles. He was on his way back from having a custom made burrelled walnut stock made somewhere in Missouri. He claims this particular German made rifle cost almost as much as my Cobra. Un-Believable how much money we can get tied up in some of our hobbies.
