TR-3550 TKOII (help with installation plz!)
Hi !
I just bought a Tremec TR-3550 TKOII and I got some problems to install it. The "yoak" (sry 'bout my english!) on the driving shaft are too small but...it s ok, I already resolve this litle prob. The other real problem are the cross-member who support my transmission. He touch the tail of my Tremec and I cant install it. If I, the transmission goes up and I dont think that s a big idea... What did u do with ure cross-member ? Can I buy another one or the only solution that I have are to weld the brackets backward...? THX a lot I know that I m not the only one to have a TR-3550, so I m pretty sure that I will get some help here !!! THX Again ! Hugo |
Not sure I understand your problem completely, but:
A lot of cobra builders end up trimming part of the tailshaft off the tremec, the torque arm mount that is behind the tranny mount, below the outut shaft. It's a rib of aluminum shaped liek a triangle. Custom crossmember may be necessary. What kind of cobra is this? |
It s a 90. A new one, not the legendary ones :~(
My crossmember, with the support of transmission, touch the tail of the tramsmission and if I cut the crossmember, he will loose all his strenght... |
I just put in a Tremec 3550 behind my 428. I had to notch the crossmember and weld on a plate to hold the rear transmission mount. _______ ________

oh, it's one of THOSE cobras. I don't know squat about late model mustang cobras, disreguard my previous post.

Thx a lot for ure help and the rapidity of ure reply. Until 30 minutes ago, I was going to break the tack weld on the brackets and pull it 1 inch and half bacward. Bruce Hyland from Tremec reply to my e-mail that I send to him, and gave me a part# for another crossmember. I ll go check it right tomorrow and if it s the good one, pretty sure of it, I ll will get my yoke friday and can run my Cobra a last time b4 the winter ! heeehaaa ! THX again for the precious help ! |
