seat belts
hi everyone well im wondering what seat belts to purchase for my cobra. shall i use regular seat belts or some 4 or 5way seat belts i kinda like the racing ones but my wife says do u think they are unconfortable thanks for any suggestions Neil

Don't even think of anything less than 5-point belts. A full roll bar is not a bad idea either.

Belts
Many guys go with the 5 points, which is what I did.
As far as them being uncomfortable, that is not the case. For most driving just use the lap belts and tuck the shoulder belts behind the seats and the crotch belt under the front of the seat. If you are planning on racing the car then you would naturally use all the belts. Tony |
I've got the 5 point Crow harness with the camlock. Added the shoulder pads too. Really like them. Also there is room for a little Cobra logo on the camlock.

Neil: The first year I had automotive style lap belts. Okay for riding around, but if you want to feel in one place 5 point is the way to go. I went with Simpson "y" type with the cam lock. The latch type I thought was a bit uncomfortable, got 'em from Summit 55" Floor Mount, Pull down adjuster Y style #SIM-29107 for $189.95 each, (expensive ) ? Yes, but, Only the best quality for me and my ride.
The real reason I went with a better system was all the accidents last year involving Cobras and I wanted to be safer. Wife doesn't like the shoulder belts, so if it is a local short ride she only uses the lap and submarine belt. Although lately I have been after her to use them all the time like I do. If you want my one year old standard belts in black I will get them to you for $35.00 including shipping. Let me know. Jim |
as a "daily driver", here in SC, having something like 63-65K miles thus far, i decided about 6 months after getting my SPF, that i owned it to myself to put on all five points each and every time i got in my car. For awhile, i only put the laps on, but i kept looking at that incompressible steering wheel hub, and practiced throwing my forearm across it, so i could try to protect my face and teeth in an accident.
But realized i was being foolish, and upon the suggestion of Randy R, another SPF driver, i made a commitment to ALWAYS put in all on, Y over the shoulder, lap, and the submarine crotch strap. Then snug it all down correctly, making the necessary adjustments I have worn out 3 seat belt systems, they get fuzzy eventually. I am very very careful out in my car, but i see so many accidents occur, that i felt i owed it myself and my family to do what i could to protect myself as much as possible in my car. Besides, i flip on the Accusump, and while it is pre-lubing my motor, it gives me time to get ready to drive. I always wear all of it, and if i have a passenger, they wear all five points, too. My rule. shoulder belts tucked behind the seat don't do much to save my face should that happen. |

And your forehead lines up perfectly on the top of the windshield frame for that 'horizontal part'. Funny, I never wear a seat belt in my suv but ALWAYS wear 5 points in the Cobra. That goes for passengers also. Roscoe |

Some folks would say my face isn't worth saving, but I put on all five all the time, anyway. So does my wife and so do my passengers.

I believe a 4 point system will be plenty of protection. It was for me. And that's what I have in my new car also.

Cam lock is the only choice for me.Washington has a click it or ticket law. So it will be used everytime youre in the car.The latch system that came with my car takes both hands, you cant hook up the shoulder straps later while under way without unlatching and restacking everything.I know youre suposed to hook everything up before leaving but reality rears its uggily head.In the cam systemt you get the lap buckeled and with one hand you can keep adding the othe belt ends while steering and so on ya know like before you get to the street.Once toure belted in and you've pulled the slack out you can't move anything but your head.

In MOST traffic accidents, you are well protected with the five point belts; the "fifth" belt, from your crotch to the floor, is a great idea. However, and this is to be taken into account on a very MINISCULE amount of accidents, if your Cobra "rolls over", your head will be crushed as it sticks up beyond the line from the top of the roll bar (shorter, single-hoop style) to the top of the front fenders....just something to consider......I hope no one EVER rolls over.
