MO state troop inspection
I'm sure someone has covered this topic before, but here you guys go again... I just picked up my completed car and have found out that the car must be taken down to Troop F for inspection. What am I in for? I realize the vehicle should be inspected based upon the 1965 requirements, since it is a period 427/top loader in the car and the MSO is stated as 1965. However, what about those beautiful sounding side pipes? Will my trooper share my sentiments about the beauty of that sound, at God knows how many decibels? Can I even legally drive the thing in there to my appointment. (I have a Kansas 30 day temp tag issued by the manufacturer, but I do not know how well that will be received in lovely Mid MO.) I called the MO DMV several weeks before delivery to find out what I needed to do to get my title and tags and there was no mention of an inspection. But then the folks at my local state office call in to Jeff City MO and tell me it must be inspected by MO highway patrol. So, needless to say, I can't to get more surprises by Troop F. Needless to say the calendar is not moving in my favor for driving a topless/heaterless Cobra replica, so I would sure like to know what to expect and be prepared.

Hi there, I've been through this process twice with Troop F outside Jefferson City. I don't know how far along you are with your registration but you'll first have to give them more money, $25 more for a DOR form. Then the inspection will cost another $7.50. I drove my car down there, they are pretty good about it. You'll have to take your car there, with the form and let them inspect it. What they are looking for is stolen parts. They will try to find #'s off the motor/trans and the like. They are not inspecting your car for safety. Your car WILL be titled as a 2003 special construction. As for the noise, they will probably say, wow that sounds nice, bet it runs good too! Atleast that's what they've said to me both times. Anyway, after they've inspected it, you'll be free to go but will have to bring the car back in about 2 weeks for them to affix your assigned VIN #. Then you are done. Have a ball.
