Side pipe help, Please!!!!
The side pipes on my Unique are bare metal as received. Would like to have them chromed, but would like to hear what other options are out there. Let me hear from you all as to what you did and where you had them done.

A good High Temperature Ceramic Coating (done by HPC who does a great job BTW) in various colors is quite appropriate, durable and does not discolor. Click on my Camera Icon to see some of the photos of my black sidepipes. They are 10+ years old, have never been retouched and are in excellent shape. No chips or dings, etc.
Additionally, the coating does not change color (yellow, blue) as will chrome. There is a silver coating, my headers and intake manifold are done in that color. Cheers |

had my done by hot shot coating in davie florida they look good and i hear ceramic coating help keep them a little cooler and doesn't discolor . hope this helps

I ordered my Cobra with SS headers and side pipes. I am gong to see how that looks/wears. Otherwise I think ceramic coating is the way to go.

CHROME!!!!!!
I was going to have mine Ceramic Coated and I had run into a gentleman that worked at a Harley dealership. He told me that the way they have fixed the problem of the headers(Harley's) turning blue is to Ceramic coat the inside after they have been chromed. This will prevent the chrome from turning blue. I think the Ceramic looks good but the chrome looks much better if you can prevent it from turning blue with this process. This is the way Im going to go. I cant say wheather it worked for me yet, but I have noticed the new Harleys driving around town have chrome headers that are not discolored. You should only have to Ceramic coat the inside of the header. I havent seen them blue beyond the collector. each of my sidepipes are 2 peices. the header and the sidepipe. the header is the only part that needs to be Ceramic coated inside. I am assuming the Harleys Ive seen without the blue have the inside Ceramic coated. It is obviously much more expensive to pay for coating them twice, but nothing looks better than chrome!!!!!!!

Art,did you have ERA do the black ceramic on your sidepipes?I saw that on the order form and was undecided on it.I definitely like the look of the black pipes.

Gary, I have seen some real nice HPC coatings being done on sway bars and all control arm suspension pieces at ERA for some customers. These were done in SILVER chome on the GT40's they were building. Wow, they look real sharp. If I had it to do from start, that is the way to go, or one way. This coating was done by HPC company. They do a real nice job. They have opended up brances outside of Conn now and are coast to coast so to speak. You couls ask Bob to take a snap of the GT40 suspension and email it to you. Perhaps next week If I get there I can do that for you if they do not mind. Nice Nice look. I bet you are chomping at the bit to get that Cobra going eh? Have you decided on a trannie yet and a rear end ratio? I will be having my rear end gears changed this winter to either 3.11 or 3.54. They are 4.11 right now which is too tall. I would simply paint them! Touch up is WAY easy that way and if you don't like one color, paint them a different color! When the baffles burn out, cut them open, replace the baffle and paint them again!

Art,I am chomping at the bit,no doubt about it!I decided on a wide ratio Toploader and a 3.07 rear end ratio.In talking to Joe at Danbury,he said I would be delighted with that combination and the 428 he is going to build for me.I would be interested in the pictures of the GT40 suspension.I never thought of ceramic coating suspension parts,but I'm the kind of geek that crawls under my car when I wash it to also wipe off the working parts,and look forward to tire rotation time to thoroughly clean my shock bodies and coil springs.(I wouldn't ordinarily admit to this,but feel I am among friends here!).Sounds like it's right up my alley.I think I'll also order the black ceramic,since it's only $350 if ordered with car.I'm trying to decide if a black car is the way to go,as I'm looking for easier touch-ups.The red I have on my '02 Celica GTS is the easiest paint I have ever experienced to blend in,so may also go that way.Decisions,decisions....

Gary: Contact Jim at American Coatings in Carmichael. He is the owner of the business and does all of the Sidepipes himself. He does excellent black ceramic. I got mine back on time and they were perfect in black.
