Period correct touches on a 289
Trying to put a few personal touches on my 289 and remain somewhat period correct...
I've got Compomotive bolt ons and was wondering what would be a correct color for the centers? Would powder coating be doable? and was thinging of changing the pipes back to flat black.. Tried to post a picture of the car but I think the files too large so look at the car in my Photo album. Any suggestions would be welcome...:) |

Thanks Ron...I should have sourced you in the first place...

no problem.
..as far as the wheel treatment, the most authentic "PC" treatment would be a 'brushed' (satin) alum dust cap in the front and no cap in the rear. (..or are you asking for a color-change on the center spokes as well?) |
Ron,
Probably a color change on the spokes... al:confused: |
black pipes would look great! Car looks great as is, though! Powder coating the centers of the wheels should be do-able. Had my roll bar coated except for the ends where it pieces together. They used a special tape to block those areas off.

To powder coat the wheels they would have to be disassembled. Black pipes look good but are hard to keep that way. The finish has a little texture to it and stains very easy.
Poorboy |
In many of the films that depict the early days of the 289's racing with Ken Miles, Bob Johnson and many other well knowns, the centers of the FIA wheels were painted a shade of white similar to Wimbleton White.
Rick Thanks Jeff |
Too MUCH TV, or not enough?
Rick -
I'm sure you meant "Bob" Johnson, driving a real 289 Cobra in the sixties. "Don" Johnson drove Ferarri replicas in the eighties on "Miami Vice" - one a Corvette disguised as a Daytona Spyder, the other a Pantera disguised as a Berlinetta Boxer. regards, Jeff |
Yea absolutely Jeff, just a blip on the keyboard. Another notable was Bob whats his name withthe race track in Arizona:LOL:
