Ffr Mkii Trans And Rear Question

JUST RECENTLY ORDERED FFR MKII ROADSTER KIT, EXPECTED 1/10/04. MY QUESTION FOR YOU SEASONED COBRA VETS IS- THE CAR WILL HAVE A 66 427SO( IN PROCESS) MED RISE HEADS, LOW RISE 2-4 INTAKE ETC. DAVID KEY TRANS SUGGESTED A 24" TOPLOADER OPPOSED TO THE 27" CLOSE RATIO I CURENTLY HAVE. FF SETUP IS FOR 8.8 REAR. ?? GUYS, WOULD APPRECIATE SOME DIRECTION!!! BEST OPTION ON TRANS AND WILL THE 8.8 STAND ALL THAT HP?

Chuck-

A lot of FFR guys are running big HP motors, including a couple of 428's. The 8.8 holds up very well, unless you decide to put some wrinkle wall slicks on the car. The cars a re very light, and the tires break loose before you can damage the rear end.

I am running a 428 CJ 8V with an 8.8, 3.54 gears and I ran brand new Goodyear slicks at the drags in St. Louis made about 10 or so passes and all were pretty hard launches (except on my bye run when I took off in third gear and still turned a 12.09). The 8.8 is a lot stronger than I ever thought it would be.

I wouldn't hesitate to put in an 8.8 again except it is much easier to change out your pumpkin with a 9".
