Question for SB100
I am hopeing to register my JBL in January using the SB100. Could somebody please let me know what to expect the fees to be for registering using approx. $35,000.00 as the cost of the car. I have read alot of posts but, I have not read any for the approx amounts that people have paid. I hope this doesn't offend anybody I am just trying to get a idea of what to expect.
Thanks in advance David:confused: |
David,if your car is a new car you will pay a "use" tax equal to what you you would pay in sales tax in your county(less any sales tax paid on parts so far)plus approximately 2% of the value of the car for the registration,as it stands now.About 10% is a good rule of thumb. If a transfer from out of state, probably just roughly the 2%.If you bought it used in Ca.,same as new-plan on roughly 10%.Take in all receipts, and make copies as they may keep some of originals.Don't even try to squirrel out of any of these fees,as it may come back to bite you later. This is based on information I have gathered from about 6 mos. of digging, and if anyone has anything to add, please jump in any time!

David,
After a few hours of discussion with our DMV, it came down to this basically. They don't want every receipt for every nut and bolt as they already have enouigh paper work, but they do want enough receipts to show what the value of the car is. IE, you can take in one receipt showing the cost of the frame and supension all mounted instead of seperate receipts for each. Same for motor, tranny, and rear end. Also receipts for all other parts, body finish and paint, upholstery, & etc. Then if you have already paid taxes on any of this stuff take a receipt showing that or they will charge you again for the tax. Gary pretty well covered everything and as he said, don't try to register the car as below what it is worth or what it cost as that is fraud and may well come back to bite you. With enough money, patience, and crying you will get it registered IF you are fortunate enough to receive one of the 500 numbers for 2004. That is going to be your largest hurdle. If you can get the number the rest is just basically a lot of running around and money. Ron **) :JEKYLHYDE |
