The Cobra of the future

Has anyone ever seen UCR's Hydrogen powered Cobra run? I know CECERT was trying to set the landspeed record for a hydrogen powered vehical.
Check it out at this site.

This setup is sweet! It would allow fuel cell equipped cars(and SUVs) to fill up at the same pumps as the old school modified FE Cobras. That's a future I could live with.At least they choose the right engine-maybe this will get rid of all those pesky small blocks forever!(He He He)

Hmmmm,,,,,, at 200 hp the Hydrogen tank is empty in 5 minutes. As they estimate the needed H.P. to be about 170 the fuel will last a little longer than that.

The "flying mile" is how a top speed run is typically measured. Their "target" top speed is about 108 mph to break the Hydrogen powered record speed. Kinda slow I'm thinking!

Accellerate up to design top speed and enter the "flying mile" holding that speed for that distance.

I guess 5 minutes of fuel would be enough! Fill the Hydrogen tank back up and make the return "flying mile" in the opposite direction within one hour.

The "gas tank" is HUGE and it lasts 5 minutes? I won't hold my breath we'll be seeing Hydrogen vehicles on the road anytime soon!

Since I know nothing about hydrogen power or storage I just can't get the image of a "cobra Hindenberg" or any other car if involved in an accident?

The carbon fiber tank is mounted in the trunk. Pressure is 3600 psi. I wouldn't want to give it a "push start" with MY truck!

Would need to look at this one a bit longer. Would make a mess if it went bang. Or maybe it wouldn't go bang

I like the Iron Maiden Roll Cage. Great for literally poking fun at the driver.....

Dean,

Thanks for posting that info. I thought it was pretty interesting but I believe I'll stick with dinosaur juice for now. Wonder whatever happened with this project.
