Aluminum fuel lines...
Any input about pros/cons of running aluminum fuel lines?
I currently run .25" diameter from Speedway, which is what the circle track guys use...but a boat builder recently picked that out as "questionable" material, suggesting stainless steel. Of course that means all new AN fittings which aren't cheap. P.S. I do run @ 12" of braided ss/flex hose from the frame to the carb to allow for engine movement. Thanks guys, scratch:MECOOL: |
Well, I don't know about .25", I ran .50" fuel line on my mod and 5/8" air craft quality rubber line where needed. This was with a 15# pump and regulator at the carb with a return line. Stainless is better in the fact that crud and deteriation are not common. Aluminum works fine as long as you maintain your fuel delivery system. Keep it clean, good fuel, store it properly then this system will work well for long periods of time. Stainless is lower maintenance and doesn't damage as easily. FWIW, Les

You can reuse all your AN fittings from hardline, just cut off the flares and the tube nuts come off ready to use again. It has been about a decade since I went drag racing, but I believe that they don't allow aluminum fuel lines plumbed in the engine compartment in NHRA. (seriously foggy memory on that one)
stainless is better, so is galvinized mild steel. |

Long time no talk to! How's it going? I hope Mike R. copied you the photos on my car. It doesn't look like it's EVER gonna get finished. Family, house and my old age keep pulling me off the project! I hope everything is well with you and the gang in Bristol! I've been running all over Orange County without hood, trunk and foot wells...she's running great-what a blast. Just worry about alum fuel lines popping and will probably switch over to ss. Send me some photos of your ride! scratch |
