Good for you.
Mine had to be Woodland. None available at Vacaville.

No one answered this one and I just calculated it, so here is what it will cost in California:

$10 - Interstate transfer fee
$40 - County registration
$15 - Title transfer fee
$1,000 - 2% license fee (ouch)
$3,875 - 7.75% Orange County, CA sales tax

$4,940 total. You pretty much nailed it!:(

Thank God Arnold reversed the 300% increase. Can you imagine how painfull it would have been otherwise?

just a thought but since you don't have the engine picked out yet, why not just use a block from 1975 or older and then you don't have to worry about any of this stuff?

Turk,

Thanks for your thoughts. Based on what you said as well as what I had previously read, it seems that I have am working in the right direction. Fortunately I got an appointment for 1/2/04 at the DMV close to my home - sorry about your long trek. I just hope mine is early enough. Your comment about why worry about 500 is obviously tongue in cheek, based on the demand for January 2nd spots. I would imagine all 500 won't go on the first day, but based on past demand, it won't take long.

Again I ask for your advice (experience). Are these cars registered as 1965 Cobras or is the manufacturer Superformance? By the time I get to CHP/BAR, I will have the engine installed, etc. I understand it will be shipped from the factory in about 10 days from now - not soon enough!

While relatively new to this site, I have enjoyed and appreciated your candor with your many posts. I hope you continue your involvement, even if it is on a reduced basis.

There is a little sleight of hand by the dmv. You can register as a 1965 ford but the actual registration i.d will read something similar to this: 2004 spcn.
This is an internal code used by the dmv to i.d. your car as first coming into the State in 2004, and the spcn relates to the i.d. of a special construction vehicle.
Your title will stall call it a 1965 ford.
If you need further clarification I would be happy to fax you a copy of my title.

Tom,it is my understanding that under SB100,your car will titled as a 2003 Superformance, but at BAR you can have the emissions based on engine year,or bodystyle('65 Cobra),with most seeming to lean toward the "bodystyle".That's what I gathered from the treatise at Cobratrader.Hopefully this hasn't changed as well!

You really don't need anything but the MSO and any fees to start the process (which may include tax and liscense) to get the SPCNS Sequence Number from the DMV. They seem to be more helpful after 2 years of SB-100 (for new cars).

I's a good idea to do it early. The 500 spots were gone in 6 months in 2003.

My title says 0000 for the year.... Yours says 2003? (or any year?)
