Goodyear Eagle fitment
I just got back from Roger Kraus Racing and picked up some
new meats. Some of you are running on 15X12 rear w/5" backing spacing. 15X10 front w/5" backspacing. I had BFG radial T/A's. 295/50R15 rear and 265/50R15 fronts. I wanted a softer compound tire, so this is what I came up with: Before: rear = 26.5" diameter. 13.0" total width front= 25.0" diameter. 12.0" total width After: rear as advertised: Goodyear Eagle 2547 26.5"X10-15 Cobra actually: 27.0" dia. 13.5" total width front: as advertised: Goodyear Eagle 2546 26.5"X8-15 Cobra actually: 26.0" dia. 12.0" total width The shape of the new tire is a lot different than the BFG's. I am not talking about the tread pattern. The Eagle's kind of drop flat after the tread width and then swell out to the 13.5". I noticed in the past with the 295's that during very hard cornering (Jag IRS) I got a small but noticable rub coming from the very top edgle of the inside tread. It would put a rub mark about where your upper left back, lower left shoulder would be. These new tires, although are 1/2" taller total or 1/4" radial, don't seem to rub. Man, do they look sweeeet! |
.........How 'bout some pics!
I'm looking at getting a set of these myself. How do they handle? Are you getting better traction during take-off? Any rubbing problems with the taller front tires while turning?? |
I have a camcorder with a memory stick for stills. The resolution
is not acceptable. I used it for pic's of stuff I sold a while back on e-bay. I bought my wife a 3.2 mega pixel camera for Christmas. I want to post pics in a bad way but will wait 'til Christmas and borrow her new toy. I just put the tires on about two hours ago. It is raining. I have a broken hub carrier I am in the process of replacing. So, sorry, I can't review the new tires yet. |
Is the tread itself wider than the BFG's? I tend to get a little rub on the outside where it sort of balloons out on the BFG's so wider doesn't work too well, unless as you say the tread isn't wider and tends to drop off before it ballons out.

Brent:
The BFG 295's I have measure a true flat 10" before tapering. The Goodyear Eagle Sports Special #2547 measure 10.5" before tapering. Doesn't sound like an improvement for either of us. I will chalk the rub area and run the corners and RR tracks a little hard when I get a chance. The way the car sits right now, I can't imagine the rear tires rubbing. I thought about getting Torq-Thrust D's, 15X12 with a 4.75 backspace but I want to see how these do first. Suffice it to say... Don't change your tires yet. |
Sticky = rocks and chips
Sticky - yes, and fun - yes, but get ready for da rock chips on da nice paint job... Its a love/hate relationship if I've ever seen one. Ya just gotta luv 'em though! :confused:

Hiway 50 from Watt ave to Hazel (my commute) has completely ruined my beautiful paint job. The GD sand and gravel trucks.
I drove for years down around Pismo Beach on 101 and never got one chip. Moved to Sacramento and it's like running the car through a fire-fight. However, the true reason I wanted a Cobra was to Drive it! The car show days are long gone. |

Hey Bluesman,
Since you are local, just thought I'd mention that we meet here in the area for Saturday or Sunday breakfast sometimes with the Cobra folks. Also, I'm working on putting together sort of a charity drop for the Wind Youth Center for the holidays. The kids/teens there are in desparate need of necessary items, warm clothing, etc... The director there says the kids would really get excited to see the Cobras...so we may dress warm and do it. If you are interested, just send me an IM. I'll know more next week on the drive & drop. |
